Starting a new thread as it probably shouldn't be in the TMT thread.
Ian Lind posted this thread yesterday:
http://www.ilind.net/2015/04/24/obscenit...upporters/
Basically, a UH student called for beatings and slitting the throats of TMT supporters. When called on his behavior, he said it was a post from a long time ago in a separate argument, but that holds no water since the post refers to Mailani Neal's TMT petition which only started on 13th April.
I've been in touch with UH. Apparently, action is being taken, but am not holding my breath. Part of the answer I got was Mailani ought to get in touch with the police. That is probably good advice but UH needs to be more proactive than that. A school kid just got threatened of being beaten. There was no answer about death threats to those working on Mauna Kea.
But the JCMT and UKIRT might be closed to appease someone like this, and the discussion doesn't actually involve staff at either place.
There is something so terribly wrong here.
Edited - wording.

Has the press gotten ahold of this yet? I'd think that there would be some kind of response from the community distancing themselves for this kind of language?

It only just happened. The Big Island news media is not known for posting news in a timely manner. No idea why you're posting about the sovereignty movement, my post wasn't about that.

JohnDW, here is the KITV4 report from 4/24/15:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6og7sGxXXM I couldn't find anything from KHON2 News, Hawaii News Now or Big Island Video News.

How many people signed the "death threat" petition? One?
I'm thinking it may be the work of a single lolo.

This is from F*ckbook, what do people expect? Also, there is a big unanswered question here. Is this the main protester/protector group or an isolated individual? The main group is Aloha Aina. One thing people need to start realizing about these social media activist/protest causes/events, they are usually comprised of multiple smaller groups. Also, the original F*ckbook posting was two years ago, and in usual social media fashion, somebody reposted it in F*ckbook with the recent TMT associated with it. Temporal distortion is a favorite with many online people.

Probably the only person with undies in a bunch is the guy who wrote that screed.
If someone decides to press charges, he could be arrested for terroristic threatening:
(b) By threats made in a common scheme against different persons;
(e) With the use of a dangerous instrument.

It's a Class C felony, so yes, Mr. Iona should be worried.

Well; Him, and all the people here that would insinuate that he's representative of the movement.
unbunch, unbunch; it's not healthy.

I can't believe that some of you are defending this guy. This is exactly why this cr@p happens - public hearings are rant fests where anyone who disagrees with the activist hooligans gets shouted down and intimidated and threatened and worse. Our public officials running these charades don't have the caj0nes to stand up to them and the larger public gets disenfranchised - so much for your demands of democracy. Now it's the loudest and most obnoxious who get their way - as it seems may happen with TMT.
I just learned that this joker works on a project I'm involved in - or used to work on that project. Very sadly, he is a product of Manoa's School of Hawaiian Knowledge (and Activism) and brings shame to that school.

I could see this coming. A bit surprised it hadn't happened sooner
