If you want those fire ants gone, I can highly recommend Puna Paul.
We had him spray for us 3 months ago and we went from having fire ants everywhere (including in the house) to having them nowhere on the property. They still haven't returned. It was about $120 for half an acre, well worth it.
You can reach him at Puna Paul 3 at g mail dot com. Be patient, he's very busy. I don't know exactly what he uses, I only know it works. I heard about him through a neighbor.

It involves peanut butter that's all I know. I'd keep it a secret if I were him but then I didn't ask.

LFA are protein feeders. Peanut butter, powdered liver, brewer's yeast, or torula yeast are recommended options in the gel bait recipe. Not necessarily in that order.

FYI...wd-40 works if you get stung/bit by them little buggars, just spray a little on the bite and it goes away.....ahhh WD-40 a millon and 2 uses...

If its peanut butter then could it be the UH labs LFA recipe which uses Tango which supposedly is garbage?

To recap, for those who haven't read the other threads, the Tango recipe does not use an insecticide and it does not kill LFA. Think of it as a form of LFA birth control. Provaunt is an insecticide. Used in the gel bait the theory is that the workers take the poisoned gel back to the colony and share it, and they all die (insert sound of evil laughter).
Also the newest "best thing" for controlling ground nesting LFA is a poison bait product called Siesta. Last I checked it was not available locally but is available on eBay and Amazon though the prices and availability vary daily. The product doesn't kill LFA outright but causes a permanent paralysis that results in the death of the colony (queue evil laughter sound effect). The method of action is apparently less toxic to non target species. But more importantly than that it works better than Amdro type products and holds up to moisture much better.

I did the Tango application, three applications about a month apart, the last one was three months ago. I went from getting bitten or stung every time I picked fruit or cleared weeds to now seeing no ants and feeling no pain. This is on one acre in Leilani.
