OHA Votes to Rescind Their Support for the TMT
#31
Here is PART I of the OHA meeting yesterday (below). This is the discussion as the Administration has given their report, and clarified the options the Board has re: TMT. There is no public testimony on this video:

Here is a short video of the final vote:

Also, if interested, tonight is the "First Friday Show" (OleloTV), hosted by Mililani Trask, who will have as a guest Kumu Hinalei Moana, and Lanakila Mangauil, one of the two lead protestors/protectors. They will be discussing OHA, and the TMT project, (among other topics):

"I slogged through the video above as well as as "part 3" which opihikao posted:

Has anyone watched this stuff? I am taken aback, to say the least. It makes the posts here on PunaWeb seem like straight up sanity. I started with "part 3" and could not believe my ears.
"

I'm still trying to figure out if the guy at the start of that video really thinks Chile blew up a telescope or Mt. Everest. Very hard to watch something after that.

As long as we do a headstand on Easter Sunday and bring a lei to the volcano, we'll be just fine. Prepared and fortified.

He wasn't even the craziest. Or at least he had some competition. Almost unbelievable.

Hooray, we made Slashdot.

The thread is young, best comment so far:

You mean the history culture of shaking down any deep pocket involved in a large construction project ?

An august body such as OHA having precipitously reversed their decision, one made after seven years of informed deliberation and then remade after a few weeks of protest by fanatics who could have been speaking up all along, is hardly something to celebrate even on the part of the protesters. OHA can't have much credibility left. The protesters never did. Why such eagerness to give up the gravy train that has been sustaining us all? Can they not see that nobody would want to do business with people who could screw up a deal like this? I pretty much DO think it a given that they would fall under the influence of one power or another. They are like the scions of a wealthy family who upon inheriting the wealth would soon lose it because they clearly have no idea how it was generated in the first place and what was at stake.

PW Word of the Day

ridicule - noun

the subjection of someone or something to mockery and derision: I would have though you would not be one to step so low as to practice ridicule here.

If you're heading out the door having dolled yourself up to look ridiculous and your family tells you so, they are doing you a favor.

The news media and social media is already fiddle-farking the word "rescind". The original news post clarified OHA is revisiting their absolute total support of TMT, not that they had reversed or gone against TMT. OHA clearly stated they are reviewing their support of the TMT, and part of that review is if OHA should be getting a lot more money and the observatories along with UHH need to make good on their commitment to decommission observatories as new ones came on line.
