Here's the conveniently omitted footnote from the article -
Facts in irony be damned...
Earth Endangered by Old Strain of Ethics-Resistant Humans

There are a lot of fact and ethic resistant minds running around all over, not just Hawaii. But does anyone remember when the State of Hawaii used to have our social security numbers on our driver's licenses ? Well, that was unconstitutional and the State of Hawaii was told so, a fact they ignored. They continued to walk all over our rights. It took someone with big pockets to sue the State, and that is why our social security numbers are not on our driver's license anymore. As a lawyer once told me, we do not have any rights unless we exercise them. And, according to the Declaration of Independence, it is our duty as citizens to rise up against corruption, especially in the government. So, that is what we must do, act legally to prevent our rights from being eroded.
And speaking of facts, Let us not forget that the Europeans came to America running from the tyranny of religious persecution and over taxation, that killed Rome by the way, and it will kill us too if people continue to ignore facts. And to top it all off they killed most the Native Americans and pushed us off our lands under a Manifest Destiny attitude. And did they learn anything for all that loss of life ?
Nowadays, citizens have become complacent and allowed their rights to slip away in exchange for luxury and comfort/ suburbia. What will they do when they have to hunt because the ships are not docking ? Does anyone remember WWII, because you could not get supplies, and does anyone remember that earthquake that shut down the docks ? Just a few examples. Plus if everything is bulldozed and built upon, where will you hunt ?
So, if newcomers come in, no matter whether they are anti-science minded or whatever, it is the limited narrow thinking that hurts the rights of others, the locals born here and those who moved here to get away from crap. Then these narrow minded people come, bulldoze everything down and make their lot look like the very thing they left to come here for. Why don't they just stay where they are ? Because it is only a matter of time before every lot looks like the suburbia they left in the first place to come to this beautiful green island. It will not be green and beautiful long at that rate.
So, to protect our rights, to assemble and be heard, we The residents of Jungle King Community have decided to do something to preserve our rights. We are an entire street of residents who have recently created their own organization to preserve the ambience and culture of our street because we are being over run with this narrow mainland suburban thinking. So, one of the things we are now requiring is that a jungle perimeter be maintained around your property. Of course if you own more than one lot you can approach the Board to get an exception if you want to combine the lots with the county, for example. So, we are trying to meet the needs of locals, old timers and newcomers. Anyone who wants to more about what we are doing can go to our website

Yes. I also remember that during that same time period most of us had our social security number printed on our checks. If you didn't, the store would ask for it, and if you didn't tell them they wouldn't accept your check.

Any sheep? Pigs? Do you have a hunting season or anytime OK?

Curious how that will be enforceable without a CC&R. Maybe the "community" is more "cohesive" than most?
Also I'm pretty sure it's not legal to gate the road, but I'm leaving that problem for others.

If it's "scientifically" developed, it's good; Right?
I agree with you snorkle. And go one step further to say that those who support all scientific/technological advances without discernment are actually a greater threat to society than the fact challenged faction. Going so far as to attack those who do discern and question wisely is pretty creepy for lack of being able to articulate said creep factor.

REPLY : That is also illegal to require your checks to have it on there if anyone wants to challenge it. Social security numbers began : Excerpts from From wikipedia :
Social Security numbers were first issued by the Social Security Administration in November 1935 as part of the New Deal Social Security program. Within three months, 25 million numbers were issued……….
Before 1986, people often did not obtain a Social Security number until the age of about 14, since the numbers were used for income tracking purposes, and those under that age seldom had substantial income. The Tax Reform Act of 1986 required parents to list Social Security numbers for each dependent over the age of 5 for whom the parent wanted to claim a tax deduction. Before this act, parents claiming tax deductions were on the honor system not to lie about the number of children they supported. During the first year, this anti-fraud change resulted in seven million fewer minor depend…..
The 5th requirement for citizenship/residency/nationality, which is proved by providing the dependent's SSN, was added during the 1986 tax reform.By 1990, the threshold was lowered to 1 year old,and is now required regardless of the child's age. Since then, parents have often applied for Social Security numbers for their children soon after birth; today, it can be done on the application for a birth certificate.
Purpose and use[edit]
The original purpose of this number was to track individuals' accounts within the Social Security program. It has since come to be used as an identifier for individuals within the United States…….
Employee, patient, student, and credit records are sometimes indexed by Social Security number. The U.S. Armed Forces has used the Social Security number as an identification number for the Army and Air Force since July 1, 1969, the Navy and Marine Corps since January 1, 1972, and the Coast Guard since October 1, 1974.Previously, the United States military used a much more complicated system of service numbers.
Non-universal status
An old Social Security card with the "not for identification" message
Social Security was originally a universal tax, but when Medicare was passed in 1965, objecting religious groups in existence prior to 1951 were allowed to opt out of the system.] Because of this, not every American is part of the Social Security program, and not everyone has a number. However, a social security number is required for parents to claim their children as dependents for federal income tax purposes,[9] and the Internal Revenue Service requires all corporations to obtain SSNs (or alternative identifying numbers) from their employees, as described below. The Old Order Amish have fought to prevent universal Social Security by overturning rules such as a requirement to provide a Social Security number for a hunting license.
Social Security cards printed from January 1946 until January 1972 expressly stated that people should not use the number and card for identification. Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a SSN, it became convenient to use it anyway and the message was removed.
Since then, Social Security numbers have become de facto national identification numbers.[2] Although some people do not have an SSN assigned to them, it is becoming increasingly difficult to engage in legitimate financial activities such as applying for a loan or a bank account without one…….

So, basically we have allowed our social security numbers to be used for identification because we do not stand up against the "message that was removed"

As far as a hunting permit, you are welcome to attend a monthly meeting to bring it up to the residents of Jungle King because everyone has an equal vote in our community, not just the Board, and no has to pay to vote, helping to prevent some of the cause for corruption that has plagued many community organizations throughout Puna

REPLY : Yes we are very cohesive on our street, most residents feel like family and hang out together more than once a week. And yes gated communities are legal as long as you do not deny access to lot owners, which everyone who lives on our street will have their own locks for their own access. Whom they give the key or combination to is their business. The idea is to reduce theft and establish the required once a year real estate law requirement to chain or block your private road off a minimum of one day a year for 24 hours so that it does not become public access. We want our road to remain private. I have not paid road fees all these years to give it to the county
