RoundUp budget meeting
#1
http://hawaiitribune-herald.com/news/loc...dget-talks

Regardless of whether one thinks RoundUp is evil and causes cancer, is this how it's supposed to go? Any line item in the county budget gets to be protested?

This is getting out of hand. Or maybe it's a good thing. Every line item in the budget gets a public hearing and the most vocal people get their way...?

Cheers,
Kirt

(If the county is still paying for for Monsanto RoundUp vs. Hondo or the other generics offered now after the patent is up, then there is something wrong.)

I would rather that they spray than pay for the equipment and manpower to continually mow...

Good lol. Seems that is the way mob rule is heading.

My objection to glysophate (Roundup) is that it sucks as a herbicide. Everybody around here that uses it knows how it just washes off if it rains, you have to mix it with dishwashing soap so it will stick long enough to do something. Also, it raises a lot of doubt of how effective it is when it advertises killing vegetation for a year and the weeds grow right back after a month or two. It also has a nauseating odor, I always prepare to take off all my clothes and shower after using it but the odor lingers the rest of the day.

If people feel the need to protest, they should start addressing the real issues rather than just making up a bunch of outlandish claims to raise hysteria. Monsanto shouldn't be demonized for concocting evil potions. They should be criticized for spending too much time creating a noncompetitive market and not producing more effective products. WTH, glysophate is from the 60's and they haven't been able to develop a better product in 50 years? The protest signs should read "Monsanto, U suck at innovation".

"Aloha also means goodbye. Aloha!"

It is definitely a tough decision for them to make.
Do we conveniently dump poison onto our reef system, or hire a couple of local citizens to spend hours mowing? Do we pay Monsanto, or keep our money here on the Island? hmmmmmmm......

spray on!!! Roundup is safe! and we all know no one will actually hand pick weeds from road edges or center dividers... and I love to see all the propaganda believing fear mongers squirm when the spray truck goes by...

ps please dont use pseudo weedkillers like vinegar... its just like pouring gasoline, bleach, or saltwater, etc. on your land.. it will contaminate the soil for a long time ....compared w/roundup, where the soil can be used for seedlings the next day after spraying...

"Do we conveniently dump poison onto our reef system"

Please show us where the County has been dumping poison onto our reef system. With false comments like yours, you must be one of the anti-TMT people.

I had an Herbicide/Pesticide Applicator's license for years; I also ran a composting facility that won Composter of the Year award from the U.S. Composting council. I asked Dr. Elaine Ingam from Oregon State University (or U of Oregon? Ducks or Beavers, anyway)about Roundup. She said "I hate to admit it, but after a field is sprayed and turned under, the earthworms gobble up everything Roundup killed." That being said, you need to follow the label instructions. Roundup isn't a problem; Montesanto, on the other hand...jmo.

My experience in the past as a commercial sprayer taught me that Roundup indeed is effective and breaks down eventually while sitting dormant in the soil.

The problem here in Hawaii(Puna especially) is the lack of soil, and the permeable rock geology that enables it to travel quickly to the ocean. (Where the Coral gobbles it up?)

Spraying the banks of a creek which flows to the ocean, perhaps?
