Unbelievable petition introduced in Hawaii
#11
It will never go forward... the County doesn't have the power to ban a whole class of motor vehicles and the courts would strike any such legislation should it be passed. The petition is absurd.
In San Juan County Wa. they banned jet ski's for some time, till the legislation ended up in court and was struck down. This over reaching mentality needs to come to an end. This is a strange notion to some I realize that but... there are limitations to the power of government.

Why dumbfounded? It will never pass (unfortunately), but it's amusing to see the jerkwads get themselves lathered in a froth. Having endured many nights of being awakened by someone blasting down Road 8 in Hawaiian Acres at 2 AM on a Harley, or for that matter being able to hear them five miles away on the highway and having to wait what seemed like hours for them to pass before I could try to get back to sleep, I think I'm due at least a tiny bit of schadenfreude.

It is already illegal to modify the and/or remove the stock exhaust system on a motorcycle. I wish they would actually enforce it.

people who enhance the loud exhast system are selfish stupid people who have no regard for the others.

A lot of bikers prefer a louder exhaust to be "seen" by other drivers, as many drivers are in too much a hurry to look twice before moving through an intersection, or changing lanes without looking over their shoulder. With the medical facilities available, I really don't blame them. It's a long haul between Captain Cook and Pahala if you go down, then add the call in, response time for the closest Fire/EMT, then the decision of closest med center, or LifeFlight could make or break someone's life, or quality thereof.

Years ago, somebody asked me to sign a petition to ban the eating of horse meat in California. I thought it was a stupid petition that would never pass, but it did. You never know what people will support.

I lived near a Hell's Angels club house for 18 years. That used up all my tolerance for loud bikes. You could tell when a neighbor called in a noise complaint because after the cops left (without making any difference), the bikers would do a few victory laps around the neighborhood. I hear a loud bike, I think A-HOLE!.

Though Tink, making them more noticeable to other drivers is something I hadn't thought of.

The noise exits to the rear - not towards the front.

Seems that benefit would cancel out, since they wouldn't be able to "hear" any other traffic around them.

Tink, I think you are smart enough to know the whole "seen" scene is wack.

Bring on the inspections for these

Bingo Pog! Like riding without a helmet because it looks cool until your sitting in a bed at the taxpayers expense eating mush.
