Rest assured County does plenty to help; in this case, Post Office Road is substandard (narrower, in fact, than most "private" subdivision roads), and should never have been made a County-maintained "public" road.

Because those are the rules, and "rules are for everyone".

I attributed the Senator (whom I voted for) with stating that there are several accidents a week and his exact quote claims there are several incidents per week where the road is non functioning which he attributes to accidents AND construction related traffic.

By clarifying his statement you reveal it be even more idiotic as there is zero construction related traffic jams near post office road as the road construction was happening on the Keaau end of highway 130.

Again, for the Senator to state that there are several non-functioning incidents of ANY type each week at the post office/130 intersection is a lie and he knows it.

Just a a reflection, a couple or three years ago HAAS was before the Planning Commission for a Special Use Permit for the school. At that hearing Bobbie Jean Leithead-Todd (the then planning director) entered a demand for HDOT that HAAS first install a traffic light, widen the intersection and add turn lanes at their own expense.... and that the work was to be completed in 120 days (HDOT can't even respond to a letter in 120 days much less build anything). It was really outrageous and the commission turned HDOT down.

Here comes the most interesting point:

A few weeks later in a national news report it was published that the Federal Department of Transportation was threatening to withdraw funds from several states who had received millions from a program to improve intersections at or near schools. Hawaii was listed as the worst offender with $6,000,000 unspent and sitting around unused.

It seemed apparent to me that the fix was in with DOE and HDOT to keep making life miserable for charter schools.

HAAS is a good outfit and a credit to the area. I hope Russell succeeds in getting a light there.

Hawaii has left millions on the table over the years due its lack of motivation to take advantage of funding from the Feds. Roads, education, infrastructure. There is strong undercurrent that flows to block, stall, or otherwise toss a wrench into the works from the top office holders and various department heads.

Only for "neighbor island" projects -- State certainly figured out how to get Federal money for "interstate" highways and rail ... on Oahu.
