While I think this has a lot of potential and I expect it will be further developed, we're a long way from commercial passenger applications. Frau Chunkster's luggage alone would probably require two or three Solar Impulse craft.

Interesting. Hadn't heard about this. Not sure 60,000 feet is necessary, that's way above commercial traffic, but can't help thinking the idea is susceptible to weather. Certainly a novel idea though.

Solar Impulse 2 is leaving Honolulu tomorrow morning at 5:00am for California if favorable weather conditions prevail.
