hate van in hilo
If we had to worry about everyone who might be offended, everyone would have to shut their mouths and keep out of one another sights 24/7/365.

This is actually the direction the US is going.

our Supreme Court has now made the ridiculous decision that, money IS free speech.

Let's exercise our free speech and simply purchase those parking spots from County. Problem solved.

Good idea. But I would tweak your plan just a little to save a few bucks & avoid the paperwork. Simply purchase enough Puna cruisers at $50 a pop to fill every parking spot around the park. Organize a team of vigilante drivers to rumble and sputter their way into Hilo after midnight, and roll the cruisers into the parking spaces. Chain the cars together so they can't be towed. Problem solved.

Brilliant! Better yet, we could probably "rent" them from the "free junk car removal" guys for a six-pack, after which County would pay them again to remove them from the parking spots -- and it's not even a "waste of tax dollars" -- costs for this solution would be pocket change compared to a First Amendment lawsuit, and it would even create some local jobs!

Now that is the very definition of a win-win situation!

Wao nahele kane,

i would strongly agree with that quote from Thomas Jefferson. though he is certainly not talking about an absolutely all or nothing blanket proposition. and any limitation on free speech is not just a question of simply being offended, but rather at what point it may or may not begin to unduly infringe on the rights of others. if by your judgement that is not currently the case at Lincoln Park, surely you would agree that there are limits at some point.

"...rightful liberty is unobstructed action, according to our will, within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others." --Thomas Jefferson to I. Tiffany, 1819.

My wife had to go into Hilo for a dentist appointment today. She drove by Lincoln Park. There was the hate truck, Borden, and, apparently, another of his followers. Both were screaming at cars driving by. She had to stop for a red light, and Borden was screaming, "Hey lady! How many babies have you killed?".

The park was empty of other people. This dude is going to say the wrong thing at the wrong time to the wrong person.

Another day in paradise...

Screaming at people is not freedom of speech. Now this guy has veered into the screaming "fire" in the theater camp.

Screaming, Obama in-a-noose -- yet, in this day and age of smartphones, tablets, gopro cameras, no audio, no video, no images of this happening?

Are you implying that I am lying when I said I have seen both the POTUS, and FL effigies displayed by this guy? Because that seems to be what you are saying. FYI it is illegal to use a cell phone while driving, including to take pictures, and driving is what most of us are doing when we see this guy's displays or are subjected to his screaming. It was months ago when I saw them, I did not realize I would have to document what I saw for someone who calls themselves SuperGu in an online forum.

Next time I will pull over, whip out my phone and take pictures for you, and be late for my next meeting, will that satisfy you?
