HPP Off-Air TV Antenna
#1
We just moved to a house in HPP and at one time the house had an off-air free tv antenna system. The antenna was removed but the cables are still in place. Can someone refer me to a reliable guy that can install a roof type regular old-fashioned tv antenna? Much appreciate any help. Thanks.

Reception in HPP for local stations is poor in most places (especially the closer you get to sea level). Better check ahead first to see if it's even possible.

I put up an antenna. then I found out I got just as good reception with rabbit ears. Might get more channels with a big antenna. Try the ears first. Point one side toward Mauna Kea. the other side toward pahoa. I'm at 700' elevation. Don't know If that makes any difference.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

I think you should contact any aerial installation company, which would send a technician to install a antenna. So i think you don't need to look for any guy for this work...You would definitely enjoy a good TV reception...

Not trying to revive an old thread but I've been getting some email ads from a company I buy stuff from occasionally for antennas. If anyone is interested, they appear to ship to Hawaii: http://electronics.mcmelectronics.com/search?p=Q&lbc=mcmelectronics&uid=38349481&ts=custom&w=30-2*%20stellar%20labs%20outdoor%20antenna&method=and&view=list&af=&isort=mcmpart&trk_msg=US0HFVIP7B94DF8B5FQIC3FFLK&trk_contact=ISCHO3JTEMMB3T4P51OIA1K3NO&utm_source=Listrak&utm_medium=Email&utm_term=hero&utm_campaign=EMC399

There are a variety of threads on Punaweb about good OTA antennas. Depending on location most people seem to be getting between 11 and 13 free channels.

I believe you can input your location at this site and determine azimuth and signal strength of local transmitters for your house:

Is anyone having trouble with all three 45 channels. They worked great for me once it switched to digital broadcasts but recently it just keeps failing (no signal and no channel) and no matter how I re-orientate my antenna it keeps happening. It'll go off air for a few seconds up to a few minutes then it's fine again.

Trying to work out if it's me or them. Thanks.

I thought it was just me. It used to be worse, then I aimed my antenna slightly more to the west and it improved (almost went away) but it still cuts out sometimes. I just assumed I need to adjust it a little more but I've been too lazy to get the ladder and do it. Maybe this weekend.
