Community efforts to eradicate Albizia?
#41
I guess because of time spent in cancer wards and chemo and having worked in toxic environments and all the hazmat classes and so forth I am conscious of chemicals. I will say straight up that widespread use of this Milestone is going to be one of the many regrettable acts of the industrial age. Each of us figures well my little bit is not going to hurt.
The idea that the absorbed by the tree is breaking down the chemical is simply not true. It is broken down by constant contact with actual soils that have the full range of microbes etc. Living soil.
I have not found where U of H has done a real study of its use in the east Big Island environment. If they have its results would be helpful.
If girdling the behemoths actually kills them it is better some known sweat than a weird synthetic chemical that will most likely be banned again after it has done too much damage.

If anyone has concerns about poisoning or girdling albizia, you can detail them here: http://www.citizensandalbiziaproject.com/.

Here is the label for Milestone: http://pesticide.ifas.ufl.edu/courses/pd...elabel.pdf

Just called biisc (http://www.biisc.org/), seedpods from the now blooming albizia are expected to have developed by November.
