New Lava Flow Map - USGS

FYI: New map shows lava flow, and creeping slowly:

It's curious how it keeps building up this wide shield. Looks as if it may build up to the point that it can't even come toward Pahoa anymore. Such a fickle thing this flow.

One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

The June 27:2014 flow is still active. The other big thing that has happened is a breach in the south crater wall, back towards Kalapana. It's not often, but the hornito feeding the 2014 flow is backing up into the main crater sometimes and that overflows the breach. It's probably not enough to travel downslope very far. That whole caldera is changing all the time.

That map is pretty worthless to most people. It doesn't show roads, subdivisions, etc.

there are no roads, subdivisions, etc within the bounds of the map to show.

Thanks dakine. On that map, it's easy to see that all of the activity is before the "crack" that sped up the flow towards Pahoa town last year. If that crack is now filled up or otherwise blocked, it seems as though it would take quite a long time for the lava to trickle back down towards town.
