Alternatives to Mauna Kea
#71
TomK, respect SHOULD be shown from both sides? You read almost all of my posts several times in order to pick them apart, not to answer my many related questions with a professional response. See that word should well that's the word I used if you astronomers see, feel, or know something's are being done wrong or illegally? If you astronomers see heavy machine equipment running over the wekui bug cones or altering or removing rocks that may have meaning or purpose then report it. If you know water should not be taken or diverted then by all means question it. At this point we now need many more rangers with police privileges and now security for what looks like astronomer protection, like you guys are the endangered species here?

Aloha, and have a nice Sunday.

Soon come my friend. Soon come. First come the National Guard to get you bums off the hill. Second come the construction crews to build the thing. Third come my deep belly laughs as I read another one of Gypsys posts. What a buffoon!

gypsy, good morning. For the record, the diversion of water was done by the military, not the scientists, and if they question the diversion of water, it means nothing to the State or the military.

UH Professor testifies about water diversion at BLNR meeting:

(*go to 2:30)

Another testimony by Baron Ching, re: Diversion of the Waters of Kane to Pohakuloa (even Mr. Rhoerig was unaware of this. SMH):

(*His entire testimony is filled with "pearls" [Smile])

O/T, but want to make sure "misplaced blame" is not causing further "divide", and argument. Gypsy, you take a lot of crap here, and it is also admirable that you continue to post your opinion. Yes, respect must go both ways, once earned. We have crossed paths before, but maintained respect for each other.

I hope this will be the vein of communication with all the peeps here on PW one day. Another tall order, but possible.

opihikao states: "Now, the Reinstated Hawaiian Kingdom has taken over the "lead position" of the protest, which goes to the argument that this is definitely not about just the TMT. "

The reinstated Hawaiian Kingdom? When did that fanciful bit of wishful thinking become fact?

gypsy, I believe the astronomers at the summit spend most of their time inside of the observatories, so would be quite limited in the amount of time they have available for site inspection of Wekui bugs and altar rocks. There are however other agencies that specifically watch for and catalog those types of things.

Also, when heavy machinery is operating at any job site, only employees of the contractor are allowed anywhere near the equipment or the area they are working in.

If you know water should not be taken or diverted then by all means question it.
There are no springs at the summit*. There is Lake Waiau, but no water has ever been taken from it (except wekui bugs getting a drink). Some people made the claim that water was taken from the lake when the lake became smaller, however, the water level in the lake rises and falls naturally depending on snowfall and rainfall. Astronomers know water was not taken or diverted. As far as I know, no one has ever seen anyone take water out of Lake Waiau. The reports were based only on the false assumption and claim that someone must have taken water for the lake level to go down. The claims were made by people unfamiliar with the history of the lake.

Edited: * The diverted springs mentioned by opihikao are at a much lower level on Mauna Kea, not at the summit, so astronomers would be nowhere near those areas and unable to question why water was diverted

What are you talking about? The taking over of the protest on site at Mauna Kea, or the part that they are called the "Reinstated Hawaiian Kingdom"?

If it's about the Reinstated Hawaiian Kingdom, it's nothing new. Uncle Robert Keliihoomalu has been active in this for years (decades even), and Henry Noa is the Po'o.

Read up on the "fanciful bit" regarding the RHK:

List of officers, including Uncle Robert:

If your caustic question was about taking over the protest on site, check out this "fanciful bit": (*Go to 3:30 and see the LHG, Sam Keliihoomalu, speak to DLNR):

Hope that answers the diluted question asked.

JMO.

P.S. At least I'm not ignoring you anymore. For now. [Big Grin] Want a mayonnaise sandwich? j/k....I'm actually going to take one BEEG spoon of condensed milk and put it on a craka.

ETA: clarity, and add mayo sandwich. lol.

Declaring the existence of a kingdom in Hawaii 2015 and actual government with representative authority have a few slight differences in the real world. Cute links, but...

Hey! I happen to agree with this statement (Not the "cute links" part, for the record).

This is only one group claiming Kingdom/Nation status; there are several, as I'm sure you are aware. It is not my personal position whatsoever, and currently, there is an effort to push forth the "tribal" status for Hawaiians, towards Federal recongnition in Washington DC as we speak/type.

Again to all, apologies for O/T. But I do see a light somewhere...[Smile]

"TomK, respect SHOULD be shown from both sides?"

Gypsy, I have no idea why you would put a question mark at the end of that sentence. You have shown no respect whatsoever, even going as far as suggesting astronomers on Mauna Kea are carrying out illegal activities. If you want respect, it requires you to show respect as well, which requires you to stop making baseless and insulting insinuations about others. There was a time I thought you might actually be able to do that, but no longer.
