Potential restrictions to Mauna Kea access
We have 19 pages of arguments, what are your solutions? How would you solve this situation if you were governor?

"^^ These Fantasy theories are a waste of time." ...thank you, Kimo.

and how about statements like this...

"The way I see it the only way to achieve a compromise so that the Hawaiians will allow the TMT to be built..."

comes across as rather naive. who and where is this entity so conveniently referred to like it is some clearly defined and distinctly separate group with a single voice. reads more like something out of the pages of a romanticized novel than the actual situation.

Here's what Mauna Kea looked like while building the 8.2 meter Subaru telescope in 1992.

There probably is no solution to this problem.

Prediction:
It will go back and forth until it either escalates or the protests will fizzle out.

At some point, differed, construction will start and there will be a police presence to enforce the rules finally.

This minuscule rebellion will be pushed aside and they will latch onto a new cause to gain attention/money.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

SBH asks, "How would you solve this situation if you were governor?"

Not a bad hypothetical question. I don't know. In this case i think it would be especially crucial to have a good team of people working together with input from those with appropriate expertise on how to avoid any common mistakes when dealing with a potentially volatile situation created by these protestors. Such mistakes would likely play into the hands of protestors looking to fill the role of the victim. I don't envy being in his shoes on this issue.

Or until the TMT partners decide it's not worth the trouble.

Almost the entire south side of Haleakala ... is empty. Of course, there's no water...

Maui Ocean View Estates, then.

Maui Ocean View Estates, then

MOVE?
That doesn't sound like a long term situation.

If the TMT partners backed out then I guess the opponents would win.
Win the battle at hand that is. But what exactly would they win?
IMO if this happens then everyone looses.

After their victory, they would drive down the mountain to their rental home, because their Hawaiian Homeland property is still waiting for final approval, they'll take their kids to a public school because Kemehameha Schools has limited enrollment, and they'll apply for anther county job opening advertised in the paper.

Same thing if they lose.
