As you recall, Iselle hit only Puna with the rest of our island left unfazed. Gratefully, help and assistance came from all over the island with much aloha from many groups and individuals. We were still without power for 10 days. Looks like Guillermo will likely affect the entire island (at least the windward side) and also the other islands, so, resources, emergency responders, and volunteers will be spread thin. Batten down the hatches and be ready for perhaps an extended recovery period. Aloha and blessings to all!

Amen. Differences of opinion aside - we are all in the same boat when the storms come. My saw is gassed up and has backup chain ready to go! Going to get soup and such today...

Just looked at cphc forecast track. New path puts the storm coming in closer to us now on the Hamakua coast. Hope they are wrong and it goes north...

One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

Yeah before last year with Iselle I would have said, "no worry beef curry" our mountains and the wind sheer will save us like always but now... I don't know? Worry.

one positive thing is this one is weakening sooner than Iselle did.

Not the time to drop your guard or to be unprepared but GUILLERMO the former hurricane is running into strong Westerly wind shear.

This storm will be far from the worst case scenario if the official track comes true and we will be on the South side or the weaker side of a Northern Hemisphere cyclone;
http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/D6.html

Monitor the latest storm track models here;

Interestingly, the storm track forecast is very similar to Iselle's forecasted track which as we now know turned out to be not quite right as Iselle wobbled and then turned to the South at the last minute on approach to the Big Island and then came ashore near Pahala instead of merely scooting by to the North. I believe if Iselle had not wobbled South and just skirted to the North the effects in Puna would have been minimal.

Either way this storm will face the screaming Westerlies which lie unusual low in latitude for this time of year and will save us this time. Looks like the biggest impact will be much like today -rain. The remains of the tropical system that just passed to our South yesterday and today but got hung up on the Big Island as we received 4.52" of rain here in Mountain View today.

Thunderstorms could bring their own hazardous weather from Tues. night till Thurs.

Thanks, ino. Sounds good to me. Don't really need torrential downpours but if that's basically all it amounts to, I'll take it

Wow, that sheerwind is really pushing the storm into lower california. Amazing how big these storms are. Reaching all the way out from hawaii, to mainland.

If anything.......California will be happy to get the rain from this system. Kinda interesting to watch.
