Why build it here?
#1
http://damontucker.com/2015/08/17/constr...a-kea/.Why would the county built a playground for keiki up on saddle road. The county has done a really good job of fixing up the park since the have took it over but this seems like overkill? Is there not parks on the big island where kids live by that could use this playground. How much use is this going get with the weather that up there and most people just use this as a waystation on the way to kona. It sure seems the money could been use better somewhere else.

The link you posted leads to a different article so I couldn't read it, but it's not just a playground, there is a whole separate bathroom building to go with it. I did see 2 adults and a few keiki playing in the playground today.

There are a lot of tourist buses that stop there. Maybe its so the kids can get some energy out before getting bused the other 1/2 way from seeing all the nature and sights on the East side before returning to the artificial "Hawaii" resorts on the desolate lava field wasteland side of the island. One last chance to play in fresh air before returning to Kona side vog.

That is a favored pit stop for our family when going cross island, having a playground and better bathrooms for the younger family members will be really welcome.

It would be a nice place to go on a hot day.

I'm with you, plenty of other places to build it that would get far more use. Beyond bizarre - just another example of the dysfunctional / out of touch with reality attitude of the county.

dunno, not many places to stop to use if you gotta go... I think this is more of a rest stop than a park, but kinda cool to add a play ground ...why not? probably better than PAhoa waste of building aa 23million dollar park in the wake of a lava flow. But what ever! Not only that but a stupid layout of a park. but again whatever.......

If TMT ever got built, probably plenty families would have enjoyed it on the way to work. Oh well, pipe dream I guess.

I assume this is the intended link?

There is a certain irony in building a park miles away from everything, especially when County keeps saying "no money for this", "can't afford that".

That said, I think a strip mall of huge big-box retail would go just great next to this park -- there's plenty of room for a SuperMegaWalMart (or a Target Greatland) and these would be equidistant from Kona/Waimea and Hilo.

Shhhhh........don't tell them it's the new "agricultural" subdivision that was approved at a Honolulu strip club.

It's a rest stop for drivers on a long commute from one side of the island to the other. REST STOP, where drivers RELAX.

Having a playground there is bizarre and counter-productive. Who wants to hear screaming children at a rest stop?
