Helping a Family in need question
#31
Aloha Everyone who contributed to our Christmas giving for our students at Pahoa Elementary. I would like to thank everyone who donated items. ALL children and siblings were able to get a gift last night at our Family Christmas Night. It was a great success!! The children were so happy and every child left with something.
Yes, we would like to do this again next year. Perhaps get an early start. I will keep you posted. I will be also sending some photo's soon. Merry Christmas from all of us here at Pahoa Elementary.

Thank you all for the generous gifts for our Children at Pahoa Elementary. We will giving out these gifts to our students this evening at our Christmas Family Night. Distribution of these gifts will be given first priority to our MVA (homeless) children. There will be alot of happy children tonight as we give out these gifts.

Thank you for all those people who dropped off items on such short notice. Mahalo to Heath for the initial call, Rob, Christine, and everyone who donated. ( I didn't get a chance to get all your names). We got donations of clothes, toys, dolls, shoes, socks, underwear, boogie boards, food, books, stuffed dolls/animals, board games, art craft sets and many other gifts. Mahalo Puna!!

From the Santa Workshop at Pahoa Elementary School. Amber, Onveva, Maddie, Mila, Ala and Anna

Thank you also, KAPA radio, The Food Basket and Hawaii Island United Way for the generous donation of food bags for our families. Merry Christmas!!!

I'm sure these kids need things throughout the year, and while we all get a rush doing good deeds at the Holiday season, I hope we can expand on the project that started here. I'd like to invite Anna and the others at Pahoa Elementary to come back periodically and tell us what they need whenever they need it - be it school supplies, athletic equipment, clothes, toys etc.

Many of us here have been blessed in our lives, so we aren't as sensitive or aware as we need to be about how others live and what their needs are. A friend recently heard Billy Kenoi talk about how he and his siblings used to go to the lost and found to get "slippas" because their family couldn't afford to buy new ones... I'm sure there are many kids in Pahoa in the same situation, and we could make a big difference in their lives with even a minor bit of assistance. We just need to know what they need and how to get it to them directly. (I've lived in a community where the head of a major charitable organization skimmed off money for himself, so I'm wary of donating to established charities...)

Aloha All,

I just wanted to bring this back up and see if everyone would like to get an early start on this project this year?

Let me know your thoughts.

What are you thinking? Asking for volunteers/families in need? Gift giving day? I go back to Santa's Clearinghouse in Fairbanks....

Last year several people did shopping on their own and several people did donations to Rob and he did shopping with the donations.

I just figured if we got an earlier start this year we might be able to get more people involved. It could be donations, shopping, etc.

I am really open to ideas and/or suggestions.

Just and FYI for those that are interested that the Pahoa Schools do take the "Box Tops for Education" that you find on boxes of Cheerios, can's of soup, etc.

Anna said that it helps them to off set the cost of uniforms. I have been donating ours for awhile but figured I would bring it to the attention of others that might just be throwing them away.

Now, with the general attitude on PunaWeb lately I'm curious to see how long it takes this post to turn to name calling, ANTI whatever (take your pick - TMT, GMO, PGV), Hawaii separatist movement, or other general nastiness. I hope not but needless to say I won't hold my breath.

Box top multiplier coupons in weekly fliers as well ... I think it was 6X with specific purchases.
