flyingsurfer: I have more than one source who attended the same meeting as you who conveyed the same info I posted. That the chip seal doesn't work and there were other subdivisions he named who are very unhappy w/chip seal.

The previous meeting which you didn't attend, the GM said there were issues w/the contractor and he wanted to move onto another road product, not chip seal. The action to chip seal was rescinded.

I think you are the one who is biased. Your board rep is/was one of the few reps that are pushing for this.

I know you've had issues w/your dirt road but let's spend the $$$ where it'll serve more members who travel on the main drags? We have substandard striping and reflectors and it's difficult to see any center line at night, esp in the rain. That is more important IMO as it's a safety AND liability issue for all who travel on these roads. The GM and board are aware of it already so that's negligence if they don't fix the problem.

PS. I prefer pavement.I never said I was for chip seal. You have told me more than once you don't want the roads to be paved. You said that it is more expensive to maintain pavement. I have no problem with anyone on the board. Except the 2 board members who are not coming to the meeting. That are not letting the board know that they are not going to attended.

This is nothing new. Last year Skip (the president)and flaky France missed 9 meetings in a row and there is nothing that the board or the association can do about outside a recall, which is nearly impossible or removal by a judge. No calls the board, nothing. Without association funds who is going to pay the legal bill?

Second, you live on a dead end and your road will never see chip seal or pavement. You bought your home on a dirt road, now live with it and stop crying about it, no one told you when you bought your house that your road would ever be improved and if they did they were lying to you and you fell for it.

I have never said I prefer dirt roads, never. What I said was that if we could get decent dirt roads, and it is possible depending on the quality of the road material and if laid down correctly, we wouldn't have the kind of dust we have. You get what you pay for in road material and our road crew are not professionals. What looks like saving $ turns out to cost more in the end.

My geologist engineer friend said what he saw on our roads last year, around the time you were having road material issues, wasn't road material. It was good for the garden or for sub base coarse under asphalt. He asked why the mgmt was putting this stuff down on our roads esp if a lot of members had been complaining for over a year or two. I can't say what his response was to my saying good question. He said better to pay more for better quality road material bc it'll last longer.

Regarding the maintenance discussion, it was a former honest and hard working board member who stated it'd be cheaper to maintain good dirt roads than asphalt. I brought up his idea as something to ponder.

I prefer asphalt. I think improving our roads means asphalt. I don't like introducing a 3rd product. There's already an inequity with everyone's property value depending on whether you're on dirt vs asphalt. Yet we are all paying the same road fees. Something's wrong with this picture.

I agree board reps should at least email the Pres to say if they're not attending a mtg. It's about common courtesy.

I know when bylaws are being violated. Do you? Nothing good comes out of bylaws being broken. There's a reason we have rules when volunteers are managing a multi million $$$ business that is OUR monies. There are a few who arrogantly and habitually sidestep them. NOT cool! They're breaking the oaths they promised to follow and they are managing our monies.

See, that's a misconception. Payments are not for pavement installation, they are for R/W maintenance and associated costs.

Exactly: said payments should be pro-rated based on the existence of pavement.

From the above thread, it seems that everyone pays the same amount, but all the money goes into lawyer fees to settle HPPOA arguments, and no actual road maintenance is performed.
