Has anyone here done any research on NextEra? They don't look too bad to me.

"Even if NextEra can deliver a few cents savings, which I doubt, I do not believe that compensates enough when compared to a local administration responsible to members of their own community."

Sorry I wasn't clear. I was referring to a local CO-OP when I said local.
I think when people start researching "Smart Meters" which are now ubiquitous in Florida courtesy of Nextera (Florida Power and Light)they will be alarmed.

If a tree falls in Hawaii and you are in Florida does it make a sound?

FYI: Maui PUC Meeting

(*Snipped - More at link)

More than 200 people filled an elementary school cafeteria Friday evening to take three-minute turns telling the state Public Utilities Commission what they think about the proposed $4.3 billion sale of Hawaiian Electric Industries to NextEra Energy.

The turnout in and of itself was significant, on such a balmy night and the beginning of the long Labor Day weekend. Plus, as PUC Chair Randy Iwase brought up more than once, the monthly free street festival was happening in nearby Wailuku.

But the seriousness of the matter at hand, the impacts of selling one of the oldest companies in Hawaii to an enormous energy firm based in Florida, was clearly not lost on the community.

Preliminary research shows they are against consumer operated renewables and do not offer any rebates or incentives. Of the 103 rebate/incentive programs active today in the state of FLA, none of them involve Nextra.

Here is a link to a Florida article that explains the renewable angle in more depth.

Basically, they want to operate their own mega solar and wind farms and keep us tied to the grid.

CORRECTION - Under their subsidiary, Florida Power and Light, Nextra does offer 2 energy rebates but those only involve weather stripping and the like.

This is, as I understand it, a test case. This was put forth by a municipal judge and will be appealed all the way up to the State Supremes. Troubling nonetheless.
