09-06-15 Hilo Kamehameha statue spear theft
#41
it contributes to the continued anger felt by Hawaiians.

...discounting the Hawaiian race and their culture, belief, and maintain self-appointed superiority over "these native people".

Opihikao, have you heard who might have taken the spear? My understanding is that there are no clues and the culprit could be of any race, religion, or nationality.

I take (and make) the comments on this thread as directed at the stupidity of the perpetrator(s), not in any way belittling Kamehameha or the Hawaiian people. Theft of the spear is just plan dimwitted.

I suggested earlier the thief might be caught by the night marchers of his/her own conscience. I still think that's possible.

the culprit could be of any race, religion, or nationality

The difference being: if the turn out to be Hawaiian, no charges will be filed, right?

This is pretty interesting, wonder if there will be a break in the case and we'll find out if the new bearer of the spear is politically, financially or prank motivated.

It's been found near the statue.

Detectives also conducted checks in the channel behind the statue by deploying a water craft as well as conducting checks in the overgrowth on the banks of the channel. It was during the search in the overgrowth that the stolen section of the spear was located and recovered.”

Police say the spear segment will be processed for any forensic evidence and returned to the statue’s organizers. Detectives continue to check nearby businesses and buildings for the existence of video surveillance.

So much for my completely fabricated and unsubstantiated Waiohinu-connection theory.

Is that 2 year old boy still missing? And the detectives were deploying all these resources looking for a fake spear that was commissioned and owned by a hotel on Kauai until the natives protested it? Am I the only one who thinks this is weird?
