A friend from Fern Forest who flew to L.A. last week Wednesday says that in the 5 days she has been there, the fuel prices have surged 50 cents a gallon. When she arrived,it was an average of $2.29 a gallon. As of this morning ( Sunday ) up to $ 2.79 a gallon for self serve regular in her area of L.A.
Are we far behind i wonder ?

I heard they raised gas taxes in California starting this year.

Flew in Saturday, gas at Kona Costco was $3.19, cheaper than it was when we left California. Gas at Santa Rosa Costco was $3.23 the day before.

Got gas at Safeway with their points (my brother had a bunch that were expiring toay!)

$1.649 with a dollar per gal off with 10 points (max you can use at one time)!

Feel like I am 39 again!!! [Smile]

So what was the price before "points" ?

each Safeway gas point is $0.10, so 10 points = $1.00 off
so the gas was probably $2.649/gal
which is the same cash/debit price for regular gas at Safeway yesterday (credit is $0.10 higher)

Add: just realized that it was over $1 more a year ago....
nice to have these "memory lane' posts now & again!

Except for a few items, we can't afford to shop at Safeway, and the stuff we do buy there never adds up enough to qualify for a discount. I think I got a ten cent/gallon discount once over a year ago. For example my contact lens solution at Safeway is over $18, it's $8 and some change at Walmart or Target. There are some things like carbonated water at Safeway that is cheaper but I don't drink enough of it to hit the $50 threshold for the gas discount. The last time I went to Safeway I bought some "fresh" clams and when I got them home realized that half of them weren't just dead, they were rotting. We called them thinking that they might be concerned that their putrefied clams could make somebody sick and they were very unconcerned, just repeated to bring in the receipt (like I'm going to drive 30 miles round trip to get a few dollars back). We had to contact Safeway corporate to get the store to pull their rotting clams. Next time you see the clam poke at Safeway... remember this story.

if "$1.649 with a dollar per gal off with 10 points (max you can use at one time)", without points it was $2.649
