Forum for next President
#1
Rob,

The next President will affect Puna. How about creating a forum that can be used to discuss this?

You can shut it down after the election.

I think I will stick to Punaweb being directly Puna and Hawaii related. There is no shortage of election related places to post opinions. There is a shortage of Puna and Hawaii related forums.

The post in Puna Politics about Tulsi Gabbard is a good example of the two topics intersecting. Look for those direct intersections and bring them here.

Assume the best and ask questions.

A whole forum? Kind of grand excess, eh? Seems like your post will suffice as the thread. With the total meltdown of the Republican party and the candidates now appearing to be the Wacko Kings of Wacko, not a whole lot remains except watch the clown show.

It is awesome to see the pendulum starting to swing. The Republican party is also the party of Big Oil. The solid red states were a band through the center of the country to the Gulf and the rest of the southeast. The market manipulated commodity price of oil went up by 4 times the price when the Republican Regime took over.

Pre-peak oil arriving is causing all this to collapse. The Oil Belt will be laying off thousands by next year. This coincides with China slowing down its overheated economic growth of 10% per year to 7% per year. This is already starting a global slowdown for commodity prices such as oil and metals. Another big event was Shell Oil was allowed to drill in Alaska, against several years of protest (remember Palin "drill, baby, drill"?), spent $7 Billion for the rig and just came back not finding any. They announced no plans to go back. The latest news is Canada is going into recession, cost of sand tar oil exceeds market price. Venezuela inflation has now hit 159%, their oil no longer in demand. The rumbles are only just beginning.

Realizing a lot of people don't like doing FaceBook, I find FB to be very informative, a way to keep in touch with people all over the globe, and a way for community to discuss issues or not. FB is what YOU yourself make of it. It doesn't have to be a bunch of selfies and pix of your meals, you know.

There is a FB page entitled Big Island Dems which is NOT an official Democratic Party page. It's been pushing Bernie Sanders campaign and hopes to build on the progressive arm of the Hawaii Democratic Party. IMO, this is the perfect time for progressives to build their base here in Hawaii. The plantation machine/old Democratic Party machine in this state has finally died, a few stray remnants here and there, but there's no real HDP leadership at this point. The last gubernatorial election was illustrative of that. So visit the Big Island Dems FB page and post points for discussion.

And be aware of the Hawaii Democratic Presidential Perference Poll on March 26, 2016. That's when all Democrats throughout the state will be caucusing in their local districts to indicate who of the Dem contenders they want as the party's nominee. It's also when you can sign up to be a delegate to the Democratic conventions and help push through issues you are dedicated to. Every district gets 25 delegates but most districts are lucky to get 5 or 10 people to sign up as delegates.

There is a lot of change going on politically out there, folks, both nationally and in Hawaii. Even in Puna....

There isn't going to be much change for Hawaii, it is about as blue as a blue state can get. Civil Beat has an amusing article about Senator Slom, the only Republican state senator. There seemed to be a right winger support movement building in Puna but that deflated like leaky hot air bags.

Sam Slom, the Hawaii Senate’s Dot of Red in a Sea of Blue
Outnumbered by Democrats 24-1, Sen. Sam Slom can’t even make a motion on the state Senate floor without a Democrat’s help; otherwise it will die for lack of a second.
Representing Senate District 9 in east Honolulu, he’s been the chamber’s lone Republican since 2010 and is good-natured about constituting the Senate’s entire GOP caucus.

There are many shades of blue and lots of people consider many of Hawaii's Dem legislators and leaders to be more Republican than Democratic in philosophy and support of corporate and imperialist America. I finally learned this past few months why so many citizens, especially the young, fail to vote...I've heard it before but it never sank in until Sanders campaign and that is they really don't want either Dems or GOP, see them as the same. At least the Democrats allow the full spectrum of POV.

One of the shades of blue is being locked into 70's culture issues, continuing to use truisms from that era when they are no longer true.
Pointing blame/shame fingers at all corporations in general is pathetically childish and ignorant. It's a failure to not recognize it is the people within these human inventions called corporations that make them good or evil. The basic truth about the decades since the 70's is that wherever technology and corporations are adopted by the people in a mostly agrarian society results in higher standards of living and health for all. 70's era Democrats need to stop spouting outdated and obsolete misinformation.
