Been many folks out here in puna who have been battling a flu or dengue for weeks now. In most cases the 103 degree fever last for a couple days and is accompanied by a serious painful headache behind the eyes. The several I know who have already been through this never went to the doctor or had it tested for the possibility of dengue. Some Folks out here in puna are not use to going to doctors for anything outside of an emergency. With no insurance and lack of real doctors outside of Dr Dan in the area, many folks simply look for home remedies.
The dengue seems to be less of a killer than the regular flu? Now that there has been about 100 cases of dengue confirmed, how many of those cases have been fatal? The Swine flu a few years back in these parts hit harder than this dengue so far, jmo. Some folks like Obie may be over reacting when they say things like spray(Deet) or die? The tourists are still coming by the boat loads so dengue can't be that bad, right?

Good Luck to you all !!
I wasn't referring specifically to accuracy of the pins in your area, but as a whole, the map shows several pins in an area between HPP and the Beaches/Shores area which is uninhabited ohia forest, as well as other areas where I know there are no homes.

Flu - seasonal, generally spreads through the population for a few months out of the year, or less. Once you contract a specific strain you cannot become ill from that strain again (although you can get sick from another strain of flu virus). There is a yearly vaccine available for the flu.
Dengue - if it becomes endemic, it's possible to become infected by the virus any time mosquitoes are present (if they carry the virus), any time of year, all year long. It's also possible to become reinfected at a later time. There is no vaccine.

Perhaps that is a function of the computer program. As you noted, the DOH and Civil Defense most likely know the location of current dengue cases down to the TMK, so perhaps when they drop and drag the "pins" on the map the program limits their exact placement when pin clusters start to develop. This may be less accurate but provide greater clarity when glancing at the locations. For instance, if there are four cases in HPP, it would be more apparent there are four cases and not two or three if the pins were spaced a little farther apart. In Hilo or Kona the clusters have a greater overlap, but it's quite clear there are a high number of cases, and there would be no other way to fit them all into a limited area.

So ... manual processing of the data makes the results less accurate?
Without time and disposition information, the map is hardly useful. Example: I see a confirmed case in what looks like Fern Acres. How long ago was that? Was it a local infection, or did they import it from elsewhere? What mitigation was performed?
...or do we have to make our own maps too? Because "it's on you", right?

With the manner in which people travel over the island, it would be impossible to figure out where the actual mosquito bite came from. In many areas, people get bites several times per day, just because the mosquito is everywhere.
So for that case in Fern Forest, maybe the person who has it, didn't travel anywhere, but a neighbor did, or the infected mosquito hitched a ride in a vehicle and happened to fly out the open window? Too many variables to really nail it down.

I believe kalakoa's apparent manic quest to twist and turn every conceivable post into an anti-government tirade may be reaching a fevered pitch of it's own. At least that should be a fairly straightforward map to plot out.
