We were at Costco today doing our once-every-few-months loading up on stuff and there were some incredible meat deals. One was $15 off any organic turkey (no coupon required for any of these deals). We found a few $18 turkeys so... about $3 per organic turkey. They also had $10 off any pork loin. Likewise, we dug through them until we found one that was only about $16. So $6 for a big pork loin. I'm not sure what a pork loin like that would cost at the Malama market... I'm guessing about $1300.00, so if you need some meat and have some freezer space, that alone will pay for gas. There was a one pork loin limit but no limit on the number of turkeys.
Of course, the expiration dates were coming up but all the meats were partially frozen and once in your freezer will last years.
p.s. Gas at Costco was only 15 cents cheaper than Safeway in Hilo and looking at the line, wasn't worth it.

I'm sure this has been covered before, but what is the approximate round-trip time Keaau -> Costco(Kona) -> Keaau? Assuming no stops along the way, excluding shopping time, and assuming the weigh-station is closed on saddle road.

They do that to get rid of food that is reaching the expiration date .It's all good if you cook it and eat it rather quickly !

It's all good as long as you don't live off grid.

Sigh, weigh-station was a joke from my mainland days. I guess lost on you Pog.
It's all good, I now know that Obie offers irrelevant advice from an off-grid perspective all his own.
