Hwy 130 new landfill
#1
What's up with all the trash on hwy 130. Seems like we get a new batch weekly. Please secure your trash bags while driving to transfer station, and if it blows out. Stop and pick it up. All this talk about respect for the aina seems to be a bunch of hot air.
Show some respect for Puna, the land and your neighbors. No one will respect us, if we don't respect ourself.

I saw it to. One full black bag still sealed, and another bag must have broke open sending it's rubbish for a good 50 yards.

@lavalava Have you ever stopped and picked it up in this situation? Be honest and tell us about how great you were.

I'm pretty sure birdmove commutes by motorcycle, so he wouldn't be able to do much more than fill his pockets with the rubbish.

If you are here for awhile, you know not to go to the transfer station for a couple days after major holidays. Also, a lot of people don't secure their load at all, the holiday "zero waste" is bigger than their normal load and fly off without them noticing it (1 trash bag out of 10).

Mahalo F***book for "zero waste". So good to find out the 2nd law of thermodynamics is totally wrong, by vote of emo-democracy.

My husband belongs to the Puna Lions, who take turns cleaning up a section of 130 near Pahoa. It's horrifying to see how fast it gets littered again after cleaning. Not just junk loads, either; a lot of it is fast food trash--eat and toss.

No need to be snarky Beej. i am happy to inform you that the last time i pulled over to pick up someone else trash, i loaded up an entire fridge that had been rotting away!

i just wish people would act more and talk less...

Getting irresponsible generational welfare adults to stop littering is not an easy feat. This is country-ish living and not enough police presence on the streets to modify the behavior via fear of a high priced ticket.

Teaching the kids in school is another thing, perhaps it's time to add proper waste disposal procedures to the curriculum.

I find those who only complain to simply be adding to the negative effect.
