Ruderman vs Ilagan

Good reason to not vote for Ilagan. We desperately need an alternative route. We don't particularly need Shipman.

I'd like to know the source for the statement that Ilagan blocked the county's participation in an alternate road. If he has actually come out against it, it would be a rare move for him. The legislature appropriates money all the time that they know will never be spent unless the governor releases it. It goes like this: Some legislator from Oahu tells Ruderman and San Buenaventura that he will vote for their road if they will vote for his school, knowing that the road in Puna won't get built, but the school on Oahu might.

The DOT/Governor isn't likely to release funds for a alternate route that isn't on their master plan and is superseded in their world by the already approved project to four-lane 130. We may not need Shipman, but we have them, and besides that we also have significant opposition to a new highway in HPP.

Yeah, significant opposition of about 80 people last time I looked. What they lack in numbers they make up in noise. Eventually HPP will have to accept the fact that HPP is a big part of the problem and will have to be a big part of the solution.

Hawaii island is known for late filing candidates, Greggor didn't file until just before the deadline first time around. The mayor run is going to be entertaining. Ruderman going back for the state senate with his really diminished influence means he probably won't be able to cause a lot of damage although this grandiose library sounds like the Ruderman Memorial Library. Special interests for ex-felons is such a strange political position to hold.

Sorry, 2liveque, but I don't have the gossip connections necessary to get that type of "facts." If it's so critical, why don't you enlighten us with some details or documentation? For me, the choice between Ruderman and Ilagan will be picking which one the the least undesirable. I'm not particularly fond of either of them right now.

Forget more parks and bus routes, Puna needs a hospital. Over an hour for some people to get to the Hilo Hospital in an emergency and even longer for some with such crappy roads. We need a hospital (and better roads), not more swings.
