Aloha.
I am Howard, and my wife is Alice. We are both retired. We live in Philadelphia most of the year, but we have rented a house in Nanawale for the winter and arrived here last week. I don't know yet when, or whether, we will move here fulltime, but we are glad to be here now.

Hi evryone,
I'm Raquel and my husband is Andy. We have been toying with the idea of a move to the Puna area from So Cal for over a year now. We have been lurkers here for awhile and have really enjoyed reading about everyone's experiences, so it's time for us to come out and say aloha.
A little about us...we have a 2 1/2 yr old son named Burton; we have our own business manufacturing and selling dirt bike carriers; I'm a jewelry designer; Andy is a photographer and semi-professional radio controlled helicopter pilot; we travel to Hawaii at least once a year and love it; we have turned our backyard in Anaheim into a tropical paradise; we have two basenji dogs ,an african grey parrot and a darling old cat; we love entertaining and socializing and hope to lure our friends and family to our future home with a fabulous ohana.
A recent and strange experience has fired up or desire to relocate to the BI. While eating dinner one night we had a drunk stranger appear in our kitchen window asking for money and gas. Mind you, this window is in the back of our house behind a gate. This left us a bit creeped out and served as a reminder as to why we want to leave this city life. Time to get out of dodge!
Anyway, Andy is on a plane to the BI as I type this. He will be landing in Kona and driving to Pahoa this afternoon. It is much easier for him to go on this scouting mission alone as we have a 2 1/2 yr old son, and Andy hopes to cover alot of ground. He plans on visiting a couple of realators and checking out the diff neighborhoods to see where we might like to end up. I'm sure he will be spending alot of his time taking pictures of everything.

Well a Punatic welcome to Raquel and Andy!! May the rainbows mark your spot!
When we searched for our place we drove around all the subdivisions at 15 MPH, people probably thought we were casing the joint! Good luck on your search!
I have seen a Basenji hound years ago and loved their chortleing voices. They are beautiful animals and I was wondering how they interact with Burton and the kitty kat.
If Andy will be on island 2/11 there will be a party he might like to attend to meet some on islanders and some hope to be newbies. I'm sure he would be most welcome to join the party. Have him check out the party thread!! Aloha and again happy hunting. Mella L

Hi everyone,
My name is Lori. I currently live in Washington state. It's COLD here today!!! My husband, son and I will hopefully be moving to the Puna area in late July or early August. If all goes as planned I will be there for a short time in May to do some more scouting. I have been lurking on this site for quite a while now and have really enjoyed all the info from what sounds like a lot of nice people. We have been tentatively planning this move for about a year now. We have been over to the Big island a few times and LOVE the whole Puna district. We have a deal pending with developers here and as soon as we know for sure it's going through, we are out of here!!! I'm looking forward to being able to ask lots of questions as the move gets closer and also to meeting some of you as new neighbors when we finally get there.

Aloha Lori,
My family and I are from Washington as well, and are moving to the BI this month. We will continue to post as our move progresses, and try to pass along any helpful info that we get. You definitely found the best forum for your situation, the folks here have been great, and always willing help us newbies with info and encouragement. Best of luck to you and your family, and maybe we will meet at a future Punaweb party.
Aloha,
Mark

Aloha all,
I have made a few posts here and on HPP forum but never introduced myself so here goes:
I'm Linda and my husband is Mark. We have been visiting family/vacationing in Hawaii forever; my grandparents had a coffee farm in South Kona and my favorite uncle lives in Ocean View.
We have lived in NW Colorado for over 25 years, the last 15 in Steamboat Springs, "Ski Town USA." We are about ready for the big change and hope at least some of our family will follow us to the Big Island. Mark retires from teaching this year, I've started the application process for teaching in Hawaii (math teachers are usually in demand...)
We have a lot on 3rd in HPP and will start building, hopefully this summer, if our house here sells and I get a teaching job. We've built our previous 3 houses here as owner-builders doing literally 95% of the work ourselves- Mark can build anything from framing to trim to cabinets. I'm just a grunt, along with our kids and assorted nephews. ("Now what do we do?!?"
We are outdoorsy and esp love riding the bikes (mountain and road). I'm pretty fast on my snowboard for an old bat but have gotten hooked on sea kayaking, so I can give up the snow- esp the shoveling part. We love East Hawaii, and West Hawaii too since that's where the family roots are but Kona has gotten so built up. We love the fact that we could actually afford to be w/in walking distance of the ocean at our lot. We appreciate the useful info here and hope to be at a Puna Party in a few months.
