Turtles

Aloha everyone,

I have kind of an odd question. I know there are lots of regulations about bringing dogs and cats over because of rabies. Does anyone know if there are any regulations about pet turtles? My 13 year old has three red-eared sliders he has raised since they were the size of a quarter. He does not want to give them up. I've tried contacting through the department that deals with other pets and they didn't respond (twice.) I even tried e-mailing a couple of companies that ship little turtles to find out if they are allowed in Hawaii but again no response! Anybody have a clue who I could contact. This sounds pretty minor to most but not if you're a 13 year old boy! :o)

Also Vickie B there on island, and known to Royall, raises turtles there in HPP. She is the turtle lady and perhaps if we could find a contact number for her she could answer your questions. She advertised not too long ago a rental also. Good luck, I know it is stressful trying to figure out the ins and outs of transporting family members, I mean the pets too!!! Aloha, Mella L

Thanks for the info both of you. I will check out the website and if anyone ends up with a contact for the turtle lady I would love to talk to her about the best way to transport the little buggers!

Thanks for that website David. I checked it out and the little buggers can come. Just have to get a permit, etc. Now just need to figure out how to ship 'em..........

We have a year old 2 bedroom house (completed July 2004) on our property with tile throughout. We are looking for a couple retiring to Hawaii who need a transitional residence until they find a home in Hawaii. The house was built with standards to accept wheelchairs. The bathroom has a tiled 4'x4' walk/roll in shower. All doorways are at least 36" wide. Fully furnished with everything including dishes and utilities. Washer & Dryer, TV & Dish Network Satellite. Wired for telephone. 1 acre fenced to share with our home on same property (75 feet away). We are in Kea'au on the East side, 20 minutes from Hilo. $1300 rent. The deposit is also $1300. Although I will not hold you to a long lease, I do require 30 days notice of moving to get the deposit returned plus return to the cleanliness you received it in.
