Lanai railing & landing.
#1
Will I need an inspection on the concrete landing for my stairs? I was thinking of 4' wide stairs so the landing I was thinking on making it 5'x 5'x 4" deep. Is there code on how long the landing has to be past the bottom step?

As a rule of thumb the landing should be at least as deep as the stair is wide.

Normally one would need a permit for a staircase - anything structural requires a permit. If you are pulling a permit the landing would be detailed in the plan and you could ask your inspector if he wants to inspect the landing form prior to concrete. H might or might not want to see that depending on how busy a schedule he might have.

Oops! I forgot to mention this is new construction and part of the original plans I just wasn't sure if the inspector needed to look at the landing pad or not? To be sure I will call Monday morning.

Up at the house I'm working on the boss has put in three landings off of the two lanai. Not once has an inspector come out to look at them.
When the inspector came out for the framing inspection he was more interested in how high the lanai was and the spacing in the rail slats. A 4" ball can not pass between or under them.
