Dengue state of emergency
#41
Do you mean the RT article? The one that includes a link to Jurassic Park? You have got to be kidding me.
The article does not say that it all. It points to some people on Twitter saying that.

Always fun to do some scaremongering.

I have to apologize,(Sorry). The article or link I provided may be completely misleading?. This article explains the connection of Zika and dengue pretty well. It also trys to clear up any misinformation like the link I provided the other day.

P.S. Not quite sure I am on board, or sold, on the GMO mosquito theory yet, because of other articles like this one floating around.

Gypsy, this 2nd link is clearly biased, they sound like the geothermal advocates here on Punaweb who claim geothermal is 100% safe to all neighbors bordering their property and in what should be a buffer zone. Wrong.

So it appears in link number 1, the cities are not properly mapped. Regardless these are the facts:

*Severe Dengue outbreak in Brazil
*Experimental trial release of GMO's to combat Dengue, supposedly very successful.
*Few years later a Zika outbreak with an absolutely chilling potential of microcephaly being linked to Zika. But only in Brazil, the trail area for GMO mosquitos. Zika has been around for sometime globally with no correlation to microcephaly previously noted.

Logically it seems important to wait and see if the microcephaly stays localized and if it can be linked to Zika. Lots of very important steps to take before considering releasing the super mosquito. This is why we have and need unbiased experts to lead the way. I've read Florida is pushing for the release of GMO mosquitos before the studies are conclusive. We shall see....

Gypsy, I'm very impressed by you posting that first link from The Guardian. Thank you.

(That second link points to the article fully debunked by the first link.)

"But only in Brazil, the trail area for GMO mosquitos."

Uh, you do know that Brazil is a very very large country, right?
The Guardian article just looks at the facts.

Is it really that hard to understand the difference between causation and correlation?
Why would GMO mosquitoes cause anything to happen hundreds of miles away?

Zika isn't even proven to be linked to microcephaly.

Why? Why not. You don't believe for a minute the Brazilian GMO mosquitoes only had their genes spliced to make them sterile, do you? Of course not. Scientists can't ever leave well enough alone.

Obviously, while they were under the HEPA hood splicing, slicing and dicing, they probably souped up a few other things in the mosquitoe's DNA. Like an ability to fly hundreds if not thousands of miles, which logically explains the trail of microcephaly that has fanned out from the original release point. A little titanium in the wing structure, some nano-tubular-nodules connecting the wings to the body, and you have a super long range mosquito that can probably exceed the capabilities of most North Korean missiles.

I bet those devious scientists even added markers to track the clones they personally developed, so they can bet among themselves on who's skeet flies the fastest and farthest. A gene pool that's also a betting pool to keep it interesting.

So haters, now that you can clearly see what might be the facts if we could get security clearance to find out, is that enough causation for you?

While I do likes me a good conspiracy theory, this one just hasn't put in the effort. Love to hear a decent yarn how GM males mosquitoes that die within a few days, were released back in 2011-2012 nearly 400 miles away from the Zika epicenter and are now leading to birth defects. (Not bad HOTPE - can almost see the Syfy trailer Wink

Instead, the explanation that Zika has finally hit a large enough population without any previous immunity that this rare side effect can be observed actually stands up to scrutiny. See questions 16 & 17 for a full explanation and prior evidence of a link to microcephaly outside of Brazil even without those GM mosquitoes.

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/....html?_r=1

Should the link to Zika be proven and it arrives here, there could be dozens of cases of microencephaly across the ~19000 births in Hawaii each year. Given the state's performance on addressing dengue, it's worth some concern IMHO.

ETA: Points to HOTPE for the first draft of the screen play

Kenoi issued a state of emergency for the big island today

Mostly meaningless unless Ige responds with a State emergency declaration.

"Can this be an emergency? Please?"
