Same here (A road, HPP). I called Helco and their recorded message says power is out in various places on the island due to generator problems, and expect to have power back in 30 minutes to one hour.

Yes...3rd and Makuu... No lights in sight. Using cell phone. Somebody at HELCO must have tripped over a cord again.

Seems it's quite widespread. Our telescope operator (operating in Hilo) just wrote this in the log at 7:32pm which is before the power outage in lower HPP:

"There are power outages from Hilo to at least Papaikou."

(And power just came back on as I'm sending this)

According to my twitter feed it boils down to generator problems causing rolling blackouts.

Thanks for that link, alaskyn66, I didn't know Helco tweeted. I've already passed it onto some of the MK telescope operators as we always become incredibly nervous when there are power outages going on. Power outages and glitches have the potential to cause all sorts of expensive problems for the observatories.

Yeah rolling power outages.Part of the problem was the wind wasn't blowing.
They will become more common because we can't build a geothermal power plant.Too bad we can't harness Bob Pettrici's hot air.

UH cancelled their geothermal plans so we can all just burn more oil. That is the pono thing to do right?
