I suppose if you really think about it, destruction of the native forest might in general be better attributed to the presence of humans, beginning with their first arrival on the island a thousand years or so ago.

There is already evidence of "guerilla albizia warfare" in my neighborhood on several unoccupied lots. One guy even admitted to poisoning his absentee (Japanese) neighbor's albizias, saying that he was doing them both a favor by having the tree fall apart gradually rather than keeling over onto his house in some future storm. I'm pretty sure the legality of this is questionable, but I certainly understand his viewpoint. I'm lucky that none overhang my property.
