no more new cases of dengue
...that were reported, and that "matched case criteria", etc.
how the big island dengue testing system works?
Media reports suggest that one consults their primary care physician, who takes a sample and sends it off to the State labs on Oahu; those results are forwarded back to the doctor, who then contacts the infected person to tell them that yes, they did have dengue (past tense, because this whole process takes at least 1-2 weeks).
Thank you Dakine, FOR both the article, as well as some of the cold hard truths of the response or handling of this current Dengue outbreak.

1.8 Billion divided by 260 = ~7 Million dollars per dengue sufferer.
At that price, all I want to know is who I go to in order to get diagnosed with Dengue, and that payment will be to me personally in cash.
Oh, and USA is now sixth from the bottom in debt to GDP ratio, after Japan and Italy.
Have a nice day.

Holding my breath and hoping it's almost over. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to let our guard down a bit and wear shorts and short sleeves again, especially if the Summer is as hot as last year! I'm so tired of mosquito repellant!

It's high time to take expanding mongoose and rodent populations in hand before they destroy more of a fragile native landscape.
The same can be said of pigs, deer, and LFA; mosquitos pose a fairly large public health risk. Why just rodents, and why now?

Rat lungworm disease is a extreme health threat in Puna, much much worse than Dengue or Zika. You'd think they would focus on the invasive rats primarily and the mongoose as a secondary concern. Brilliant.
edit to add:
Garbage at the Kehena/Kalapana transfer station is only picked up when it's open just 3 days a week. Lots of free rat and mongoose food aka trash sitting around in the back of peoples trucks and in their carports and such.
It is inexcusable not to be open 7 days a week like the other transfer stations based on the fact that mosquitos are attracted to human garbage and we are in a state of Dengue emergency.

Just learned that University of New Mexico is working on a mosquito larvicide using lemongrass oil:
