I have my antenna attached to the side of the house on top of a 10 foot pole so the antenna is higher than the metal roof that would otherwise be between the antenna and Hilo. I probably could have avoided the pole by mounting the antenna on the other side of the house, however a pre-existing mount was already on the house and it was easier to add the pole than install a new mount.

My first installation I didn't get all the channels. I fixed that by replacing the cheap coax cable I purchased locally with a better quality cable from amazon.

I had the antenna aimed more or less directly at Hilo until they added the 45's and to get them clearly I had to rotate it a few inches to the west.

Don't forget each time you move the antenna you have to rescan.

I finally set up the new antenna this evening, rescanned, but still have trouble with the 45 channels - poor signal quality message and no picture. I tried adjusting the antenna's position and rescanning, but no luck. I was also having the same problem with those channels in the last couple of days with my previous antenna.

Could someone confirm whether they are currently seeing the 45 channels or not? It'll help me figure things out.

Im on 5th and Makuu in HPP (on the dead end side) and I use a indoor antenna with a signal enhancer from Radio Shack and I get 45-1, 45-2 and 45-3 just fine. But I don't get 13-1 and 13-2 at all(NBC)

Thanks, macuu222, that's very helpful. Seems I need to start thinking about moving the antenna elsewhere. I just wanted to know if 45 were having problems or not before doing that.

I've never got 13-1 or 13-2 and wasn't expecting to.

The signal from 45.1,2,& 3 does not seem to be as strong as it had been in the past. I need to turn my antenna slightly left of the sweet spot for 4, 10, 11, etc, and then can pick up the signal fine.

Regarding the Quest for the TV Holy Grail (in HPP), clear reception of NBC broadcasts on 13.1 is possible.

It took quite a lot of experimenting but I have managed to find a good signal indoors on the 2nd floor. During football season, I mount my indoor antenna on a camera tripod. Through trial and error, I've found a single place in my home, not even in a window, in a corner of a bedroom nearest a direct line toward the 13.1 & 13.2 transmitters on top of the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. I've locked the antenna in place on the tripod, and on the floor have three markers to indicate where the legs of the tripod should be placed. This allows me to move the tripod to other rooms if necessary to pick up the other channels or watch another TV. A 1/4" out of alignment will drop the station, but when it's in the right spot, reception is perfect.

You may ask, was it worth it? My reply, are you a Green Bay Packer fan?

How's the quality of your coax?

I had a cell signal booster fail on me. I spoke to tech support and he said 9 out of 10 times it is coax cable going bad. Changed my cable and got my signal back.

We just have a Radio Shack outdoor antenna and we get the 13's in HPP. I think you'd get the 13's Tom if you just find that "sweet spot" to aim your antenna. We lose the 13's almost every windy day. I just go out and turn the antenna back where it belongs. It helps if you have 2 people so you know when the picture gets good...
