El Nino Creating Severe Drought Conditions
#31
Mebbe the drought is broken?
It suddenly began to rain about 45 minutes ago [~10:15pm], very hard at first, then tapering off and has continued to rain lightly ever since.
Our localized 48hr forecast shows heavy rain up until noon tomorrow.
May have to start mowing lawn again soon.

Don't want to rain on your parade, but two rainy days do not a break a drought. The experts usually wait to see at least a couple of months of normal rainfall to declare a drought finished.

I've heard "the drought" is supposed to last into July, but at least my tank is overflowing now.

Experts-shmexperts, you can blow it out your ear. When the water catch is overflowing and the grass is growing, the drought is over as far as individual households are concerned.

Oh, then it must not be over here because none of the neighbors (nor my own) tank is overflowing. So blow that out your ear!

1/10" overnight here in Eden Roc. Stuff is damp but I doubt my catchment came up any.

I don't know what came over me there with my crass and jeering outburst. The Donald thing must be catching.

Only about 2 inch rise in my catchment in lower HPP as of 10:00am Wednesday. At least the plants and lawn are happy.

Our tank overflowed and is still running excess out the overflow.
As far as we're concerned: What drought?

An hour or two of light rain was a reprieve, but barely raised water level in our tanks. We are watering everything we can reach and doing lots of laundry to empty tanks before scheduled refill this weekend. Lawn's still crunchy and the only thing growing green are weeds. We plan to go back to our regular conserving again after fill up. Meantime, it sure is nice to be able to use water like it falls from the sky! Baths, laundry, watering the yard is great! When the grass is green again I'll believe the draught is over.
