Turning out for Bernie
#1
This Friday, March 11, supporters of a Bernie Sanders presidency will be sign waving, first at the usual Hilo site along Hwy 11 between Ross and WalGreens from 4-5 PM. Then signwaving will be staged in Kea'au on the Bypass Road Hwy 130 merge area from 5 to 6 PM, on the bluff below Nawahiokalaniopuu across from the Humane Society. Signs and banners will be available but supporters are also invited to create their own, bring friends and wave for Bernie.

Following the signwaving, a potluck supper with music by Anthony and Lawrence will take place at the Eagles Club. Volunteers will then help with a phonebanking and emailing workparty to contact Big Island voters and notify them of their districts, precincts and Democratic Party caucus sites for the March 26 presidential poll. Supporters with laptops or Wifi smartphones are asked to bring their equipment fully charged to help spread the word.

The March 26 Democratic Party caucuses will be voters only opportunity to choose between the 2 remaining Democratic presidential candidates, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton. The state-run primary election in August will not offer the citizenry that choice. So in order for Hawaii voters to have a say in which candidate will represent the Democratic Party in the November general election, they must be a registered voter in this state and sign a Hawaii Democratic Party membership form by noon on March 26.

Democratic Party members in District 4 covering HPP, Ainaloa, half of Orchidland, Hwn Beaches, Hwn Shores, Nanawale, Leilani, Pahoa, Kalapana and Kapoho will caucus at Pahoa High School cafeteria. Upper Puna, including Keaau, Mt. View, Kurtistown, Volcano, Hwn Acres, the western half of Orchidland, Fern Acres, are members of District 3 and will caucus at Keaau Community Center. The Presidential Preference Poll will take place statewide at 1 PM on Saturday, March 26, the day before Easter.

Good write up in the New Yorker today about Tulsi Gabbard's endorsement of Bernie Sanders:

Campaigns in Hawaii are unique, and not just in their sign-waving. It’s effectively a one-party state, where almost every elected official is a Democrat... There’s no ethnic majority, and many residents are hapa, or mixed, in their backgrounds. The state is five hours behind Washington and New York, and twelve hours away by plane. At dawn in Hawaii, your inbox is already flooded with e-mails, but it goes silent after 4 P.M.
...
Sanders supporters hope her endorsement will help bring out new voters for their candidate, but others are more doubtful. Neal Milner, who taught political science at the University of Hawaii for four decades, told me that voter turnout is perennially low, and described the political climate as “murky and disinterested.”
...
By contrast, the Sanders movement is a patchwork of independents, students, Facebook friends, and aging boomers. “It’s like herding cats, and some are barely housebroken,” Dame said. He asked the national campaign to send yard signs. “They thought I didn’t know what I was doing,” he said. He had to explain the importance of sign-waving.

How dare they challenge the current masters who create laws to funnel all the money to the rich. Who are they to desire a more equitable distribution of wealth and services?

the Sanders movement... “It’s like herding cats

I believe the comment was made in reference to people WORKING to get Sanders elected. Not to those who are cargo cult worshipers, waiting for politicians to give them something for nothing.

For example: Why do wealthy non-working "investors" pay a 15% tax rate*, while people get charged the full tax rate when they finally collect on their social security "investment?" Is it that big 3% average return on social security that causes the government to assess a windfall tax rate on their funds? Greedy middle class.

* if that, Mr. Mitt "Doesn't Work 10% Tax Rate" Romney

Because the people that define the word "investment" also define the word "income".
