Shipping to mainland - crate and ship??

Hi there we have some friends that sold their home in Leilani and are currently back on the mainland. We are helping them sell their furniture etc.

They have (2) 8 foot pieces of monkey pod slabs about 4 inches thick and I would say about a 18" or larger wide. That they are thinking of having us cut in half and ship to them?

Is this even possible I mean they would be heavy and crates would have to be built. Is there a pack n ship place locally that could do this?

I think would be very expensive and also a big hassle but thought I would throw out the suggestion and see if anyone had any ideas. Truthfully I would rather they just let us sell them with the rest of their belongings. That was the initial plan anyways.

Be sure and make that "cut in half" is by their marking, or their precise written directions to forward to cutter on where to cut to prevent great unhappiness of ruining some really nice wood. Seems a mover or "pod" shipper can crate up and do a partial container load. Kona trans Comes to mind as a start, but don't personally know their reputation, but at least maybe a quote to reference by.

Based upon my experience I don't think you need to cut them at all unless that is what is wanted anyways. I have shipped large, that size and larger, slabs of lumber via HDL Shipping:

They have been cared for from drop off in the Hilo Industrial Area to delivery at many points across the USA including being banded to pallets etc. Literally you just need to call and make arrangements in advance, drive up with the slabs in the back of your truck, and they take it from there.

You should note that if the wood would like to be protected from the elements it should be wrapped beforehand. The wood is shipped via Young Brothers to Honolulu on an open barge and as such may be rained on etc. From Honolulu it is inside a Matson ship.
