Aloha Oink,
You must have some BAD birds. I had a Meiwa tree in Baton Rouge and the birds never bothered them. Now blueberries and grapes they did not share.

My bad! It's actually a Loquat tree. Big difference even if the names are somewhat similar.

Yup, I can see a problem with loquats. I did not have them for long in baton Rouge because of fire blight. I have a new one here and am hoping for minimal bird problems.

Hey Tom I guess W. C. Fields wasn't popular in England? There is a Youtube clip of his movie "It's a Gift" that made kumquats famous in this country. Hilarious (and not PC at all)."
Thanks, leilaniguy. I've certainly heard of W.C. Fields but not that familiar with his work (I know he was a comedian, actor and writer, but that's about it).
Is this the clip?

Even if it isn't, it so appropriate for a thread about growing older. Very funny!

That's it. Eighty some years later, so funny. The blind man is "the house detective at the Grand Hotel".

Thanks for confirming that, leilaniguy. I can see some of the humor in that clip being adopted in some classic 60s US movies, ones I adore. I'm a big fan of British humor, as you'd expect, but that scene reminded me of later movies such as "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World" and "The Russians are Coming, the Russians are Coming". True classics that just have no modern counterparts.

PS. Quick question - why was the top of W.C. Fields' hat missing in that movie clip?

"Pre-squeal" hearing aid....pretty cool! Does it work well for you?
I guess that explains why you didn't hear the hail.
Another mystery solved!
