Apparent tripple homicide in Leilani
#21
Regarding all the gun speak....
was the gun used in this indecent legally owned and registered?
Just something to think about before this thread gets out of hand on that subject, like most do.

I usually stay neutral on all that jazz, after all, people "really" can't have an intelligent conversation on gun control any more, and we all know it.

I *made* my first gun at age 13 in my dad's shop, fired 410 shells. He taught me how. He was just a coal miner and a farmer. I could do it again I suppose. Hell, I could probably make my own loads for a shooting iron of some sort.
Now I'm not criminally minded. Not saying I wasn't pure hell when I was younger, but nowadays I just want a cold drink and a nice breeze. But if all guns were taken away and I was a crook..... well, wouldn't be hard to come up with something. At which point, what good did the law do in that instance aside from make my victim pool a bit cleaner.

Back-On-Topic: Sad all around here. This guy should have been helped/stopped long ago. But none of that matters now does it.

Bail set at $2.75 million. I hope that's not a typo.

They said in the recent Tribune article that Hoffman's charges included a gun violation, so I assume that the gun was unregistered etc. It may have been legally obtained however, in which case, the charges may be using a firearm in the commission of a felony, or something of that sort. When I heard the initial report on NPR they stated that two of the victims died from "a bladed instrument", but that statement has apparently been revised. Increasingly, both gun and drug laws are becoming irrelevant as both are manufactured in ways that out maneuver whatever laws may be in place at the moment.

Maybe, this time it will matter. It certainly matters to me.

They always have been -- you can't legislate morality, it has to be taught from an early age.

I attempted to have a business relationship with the accused murderer about eight years ago. He seemed affable and possessed of a good work ethic when I spoke with him, so I signed up for his garbage removal service. I paid for a month of weekly service up front, and he only showed up once. When I tried to call him to see what was the matter, he refused my calls. Small wonder his business failed. Despite my negative experience back then, I was surprised to learn he was accused of multiple murders.

This greaseball killed his Nicaraguan wife and their two kids; 5 year old boy and 9 year old girl. So terribly sad. In his facebook rant under his alias snafro ali, he talks about ending wars and promoting peace amongst a bunch of other insane jibberish and this is how he goes about getting recognition. Sick sick sick.

I know the teacher of one of his kids and she shared such a sad story of panic and sorrow when his face appeared on her "Hawaii News Now" app on her phone and she realized both his kids were absent from school that morning.

These are the very reasons I feel the way I do. F-U John HOffman. YOu effing coward. Remember, what impacts one person/family directly, impacts many more indirectly. Puna and this "big" island are actually very small communities. I can only feel for the teachers of these kids, as well as the first responders on the scene. And the rest of us who need to make sense of heinous event based on one coward's actions. I certainly hope that he is found fit to stand trial. And then I hope he is sentenced to HARD time in Halawa maximum security on Oahu. ANY crimes against children lead to very challenging times for the perpetrator. He can plead inanity, but I think there is more than enough info out there to prove that John Ali HOffman was angry, paranoid, and emotionally distraught. But he was not insane. Halawa homies....have at him. I'd be the first to lead the lynch mob. F that dude.

SO DAMN UPSET about this case. [Sad!] Thank God the police caught him driving out of Leilani Estates. Just so damn angry about this whole damn thing.

He may be found "insane" (temporarily, or otherwise), and never serve one day in prison. Thanks to the system we have to work with, he will never "pay for" his actions. Never. Nothing will suffice.

Yes, JMO.

P.S. If we hear/see/observe something going on, please call the police. Immediately, and not later. Thank you. My nephews had to respond to this (EMS/HCPD), and they will never forget the scene. The "ripple effect" cannot be expressed enough. [V]

In my opinion, he was either on heavy drugs or just plain insane - or both. If he goes to prison the inmates there will probably attack him because killing children is not acceptable to even the most hardened criminals.
