We have been going up there for years to take the kids bowling, play games and picnic. The Kmc has been wonderful for the kids to learn how to bowl, never very crowded. The last couple trips up to the kmc bowling lanes have been dissapointing as the lanes are jammed with old timers bowling in some kind of competitive league play. It would be nice if they(the kmc) would keep at least one lane open for keiki to play,jmo.
Would anyone know if this over crowding at the kmc bowling lanes is the new norm or just bad timing?

The real bowling alley establishment closed. Isn't KMC the only place left?

Maybe call and find out the schedule for league play before you go.

I'm curious why Gypsy69 takes his family to picnic at a place that has clear military connections but objects to the TMT which he claims also has military connections.

A little know fact, based in the same amount of research and evidence that suggested the TMT is a military installation, finds the game of bowling began when bored cannon operators in the Civil War rolled cannon balls into vertically balanced pieces of firewood between battles. For obvious reasons the game became more popular among ground based army troops, more than with their compatriots in the navy on ships at sea. Even the terminology for knocking over the firewood comes from the military. A successful throw which hits it's target is a "strike."
Now many bowling alleys have even extended their historical link to their military past by installing lasers. While claiming they're merely for special lighting effects, everyone knows lasers serve only one purpose, to destroy small sovereign nations by bouncing beams off a system of reflective satellites circling the earth at 17,000 MPH.

Country living is a lifestyle choice. If you want amenities, there's Oahu. Right? Choice.
Mahalo terrecore, I think the closing of the hilo lanes would help explain the very noticeable atmospheric differences we have felt the past couple of KMC visits. Thankfully, The nearby children's park and playground with tennis courts still offer a nice and quiet place for family picnics.
P.S. We just found it interesting that the once small military bowling facilities was being jammed or crowded due to the lack of adult or keiki entertainment options, currently being offered here in hilo or Puna.
Now that puna's population has certainly been growing, the record number of tourists are certainly visiting, and the Tax revenues have been increasing. It would be nice to see hilo or puna strive to offer our residents and visitors a few more entertainment options, like a quality bowling experience for Everyone again. Jmo.

Lots of places have bowling alleys, Puna should really leverage its natural features.
