Squatter thieves in Hawaiian Acres

Why couldn't everyone on say, a road get together and hire a private security company to patrol their neighborhood

Would this be before or after subdivision residents don't pay their annual voluntary road maintenance fees?

I'd rather have a dirt road and security than a paved one with an open free-for-all everyday.

.. but I see your point.

County asserts jurisdiction over all roads "open to the public", which means security is HPD's responsibility -- they don't get a free pass just because the roads aren't eligible for public funds.

Then they should contract it out..

As far as I understand it, HB1561 has been passed but it has not been signed by the Governor. Emails to him asking him to do so asap could be useful. If he doesn't sign (or veto) within a certain amount of time then it becomes law automatically. I think that might be what happens on July 1st.

Good to see you standing up to the squatters and refusing to let them chase you away.

Video surveillance that can accurately ID those involved is an effective tool...
We found a very good upside is that if you have one that has really good detection levels, once the police find out you have it (& can identify THEIR response time & vehicles - esp if they pass by without response) the knowledge that there is a good detection system watching the area somehow really does "trickle down"

Ours also has web monitoring, so we can monitor even if away.... an added bonus!

I'm surprised nobody in the neighbourhood has called in some cousins or paid some Tongans to just make them want to leave.

We have 6 live cams with remote hard drives / wireless . All on solar
We got the set of 6 from Amazon and they record everything .
An alarm in the house which can not be seen from the road goes off when a person passes past the gate cam.
300 feet down the driveway a bell ringer goes off softly in the house and the cam monitor shows us who is approaching .We have 2 cams pointing up driveway and 2 point down and one outside of the garage area and one in the house .
All show date , time and all pertinent info with clarity.
We have signage up in 6 different dialects in case a person only can understand pidgin or Tongan .
We secure all firearms in a very secure gun safe .
On hand is a 12 gauge shot gun and we make our own shells with black powder and hawaiian seasalt infused with hawaiian chilly pepper and baked into chunks much like rock salt .
Better than mace or hornet spray and if the trespassers think they can do us harm - or rip us off - we record everything including who it is who is outside our gate .

We know the teens who violated our space the other morning and instead of going to law enforcement,we had the parents come over to our gate and showed them what their kids were up to and for sure they got likkens .

Once when I was a kid we were skating on a pond in a farmers field. Farmer shot us with a load of rock salt from a 12 gauge shotgun. Never went back. After that I always understood the concept of rubbing salt in wounds - and respecting no trespassing signs.
