Corporate PR spin, nothing new. Shipman wants to have as much control over Puna as possible, including being able to drive as much traffic through their company town as possible. Not unexpected to say the least.
I am more concerned by a candidate that is indebted to such a corporation (including a senator from another island at the opposite end of the state) and makes it clear at every opportunity that he is there to do their bidding. I am amazed at how many residents of Puna appear to be OK with having a senator from another island dictate our future by a proxy puppet with strings of gold in order to maintain the Old Boy status quo.
Say what you want about Ruderman, but he isn't in anyone's pocket, he isn't afraid to stand up for the people of his district, and we have been well represented by him in the Legislature in spite of questionable efforts on the part of the current leadership.

Shipman's guy makes some valid points. But sells a whole bunch of wolf tickets in the process also.
As the state dumps its poorest residents into the hands of Puna -- mauka and Makai, the demand for more roads and development will roar louder and louder.
Leave Puna as is, and watch it disintegrate further. Tons of poor folks living with a scattering of influential not-so-poor folks.

The "private agricultural" subdivisions are neither private nor agricultural.
Stop pretending Puna is "just" a massive bedroom community.

That shipman dildo suggest the price tag is about 300 million....
they just need to doze and gravel/grade from Puna Rock to Shower to create a viable alternate EMERGENCY route (gated on both sides)

D_H, welcome to PW. Look forward to new opinions all the time, however, your post here is quite insulting, and not just to Shipman. The price tag is not conjured up by one person, nor group. Talk to the State/County/Feds re: funding and costs. Hopefully, your vocabulary will allow for better chosen words to express your opinion in the future. Otherwise, this kind of expression lessens your credibility.
As to the OP's link, Ruderman using this in his political platform may backfire. He is not the first to work on the PMAR, and my guess is, he won't be the last. Further, who is he to "invite" Shipman to do anything? (Rhetoric question) Please. SMH.

P.S. Talk about "Wonderland", yes, if you read this (Slight O/T):
RE: Geothermal Development in Puna / Fracking Claim by Ruderman (*Snipped - Much more at link)

Regarding the hazards of geothermal, I caution you not rely on the allegations coming from the anti-geothermal people in Puna, including Russell Ruderman.
For the last several years, Senator Russell Ruderman from Puna has complained about the threat of Fracking. He testified to this as the Vice Chair of the Senate Energy Committee, at City Council meetings and at community gatherings sponsored by the Puna Pono Alliance. I investigated this claim as did the State DLNR.
I also checked with our Center for Active Volcano Research. It was a lie fabricated by Ruderman and his supporter Bob Pettricci, a convicted drug grower from Puna.
I prepared a report and took it to the Senate. I asked Senator Gil Kahele to talk with other Senators about the problem of Ruderman falsifying Fracking threats & putting this into Legislation. The next year the Senate removed Ruderman from the Energy Committee.

Oh my, a drug grower you say? In Puna?
I think all the candidates must be backed by drug growers, statistically...

There have been a few cable channel series with state senators involved in all kinds of racketeering and conflict of interest, as well as bribery and gerrymandering. The plots are either to influence legalized gambling or cornering the (upcoming bribed vote) legal marijuana business for themselves and their cronies. It is just TV.
Greggor is holding 50%, there is a huge Filipino community that sees him as their shining light, just like Puna Porno Alliance thought he was in their back pocket. Ruderman's voting base is almost totally south Puna haoles. Both are too weak to do anything noticeable for Puna, maybe Ruderman gets his grandiose library consolation prize. If its Greggor, he will inherit the south Puna airstrip study, he might want more studies.

Filipinos large in numbers, but they don't vote. Especially in Puna. The haole vote for Russell is much wider than the "south Puna" region you claim. Russell has the haole vote in Lower Puna, Volcano, Glenwood, Mountain View, etc. Greggor knows better than to simply rely on Haole and Filipino votes. If not, he'd better.

True, 2liveque, very true (enjoy your posts, btw).
No forget the "Kepani" (Japanese) vote, and they do vote, history shows (mostly Democratic Party vote, FWIW).
