....for auto insurance? Mine doubled moving here, geico and aig both are 2 x what it was back in Nevada....

...no violations, one car, driven by one to a part-time job.....and for 1 car here, the premium is $200 more/year than for 2 cars back there, both of us driving daily to full time jobs....

Who should I call?

Here's to a full belly, a heavy purse....and a light heart.

Call them all, everyone is different ...

We have Hartford through AARP, but someone has to be 55; that is the cheapest good insurance here, and no one can beat it, at least all the agents say they can't even try.

Second to that, if you own a home, your homeowner's will often give you a discount in order to insure your auto too.

My son uses AIG and likes them better than Geico who he used to use. AIG offers a towing road service plan that replaces AAA road hazard coverage, I know that.

A few other contenders are State Farm, Allstate, and Hawaii AAA. You can also call an independent broker.

Be sure to get uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, and comprehensive.

After 26 years with GEICO, I recently switched to Liberty Mutual.

GEICO jacked my rates after I had an encounter with another car in Luquin's parking lot (literally, the damage to my car was a scratch on the rear bumber -- we both backed up at the same time and were directly across from each other).

I was disgusted by this DOUBLING of my rate despite never having had an accident in 20 years and switched.

After 11 years with GEICO, I recently switched to Liberty Mutual.

I got an unsolicited bid from Liberty Mutual that was $300 less than GEICO. I called GEICO and they said they couldn't match it!

I was disgusted by this especially since they raised my premium for no reason last year! After never having had an accident or claim in 18 years I switched.

So, AARP quoted $2717 (!!!!)....but admitted they goofed and quoted for 2 cars-still $400 more than current
Occidental: $20 less every 6 months than my current....
AIG: $8 more every 6 months.....
State Farm....not even in the ballpark....

....Liberty $380 less/year than my current. Liberty it is! Thanks for all your input! (apparently I got a big discount for having a participating college Alma Mater.....whod'a thunk it?)

Just a friendly reminder to all that when comparing auto insurance, please make sure you are comparing apples to apples. The quote should be on the exact same coverage and policy features. If one company is lower, make sure the coverage is the same as the higher company. Generally when I see lower quotes it is often based on lower coverage. I will go back to the higher company and ask them to quote on the lower coverage. Sometimes they are still more; other times they may be less.

Second thing; make sure you are always contacting your state insurance department to get the latest complaint rankings. It does you no good to have a low price policy if you will never see a penny of that money when claim time rolls around. Example, a quick check of Hawaii showed the company with the highest complaint ratio for 2007 was Liberty Mutual.

So investigate the policy and company completely before switching.

Good advice Bob. In my case, Liberty Mutual had the same coverage for $300 less than GEICO, and actually offered twice of the old coverage for still $103 less than I paid to GEICO under the old policy! I truly was surprised GEICO couldn't/didn't want to match the quote, especially since I have been with them for so long and never had any claims.

I looked up the Hartford insurance website and it says they don't offer auto insurance in Hawaii!
