I was wondering if anyone knew of someone (a roofer?) I have a shingle roof... That could zip out a 19" hole for a solar exhaust fan?
If anyone know of someone in puna/hilo area?
Thanks!

Somewhere in the archives there is a step by step description of how a PW member installed a solar attic fan, my guess is it was in the last 2 years, but maybe the OP on that thread speak up. It sounded like a fairly simple process.

My husband terracore did a solar fan installation. But it was from the inside of the house up into the attic. We didn't have to cut a hole in the roof though. It makes a HUGE difference in keeping our house more cool when the suns out.

Here's the old thread about the roof installed variety:

I did notice Costco in KOA has solar attic fans for sale. I don't remember how much $ they were but I remember thinking the price was reasonable.

Thank you all, for the help.
Well, my roof is pretty steep and at about 40' off the ground, I don't have the climbing gear nor the real desire to really go up there... So, I figured it might be better to try to hire it out. I don't even have a rope!
But, I'd probably want some sort of safety harness.
Anyway, I called up a few places, prices range from 300-350 so far. I know that this should be a 50-100 dollar job, if I can't get someone in that price range, I may consider buying some gear and doing it myself. That is just crazy prices for less than an hours worth of work. I estimate probably about a half hour for someone experienced with roofs.

I installed mine myself, I have a metal roof on plywood. Used a jigsaw to cut the hole, then screwed the fan down. Took me about 45 minutes. I drilled a couple exploratory holes so I would see where the trusses were and that I wouldn’t cut through one.
