Long term airport parking safe?
#11
In most cases, I believe that if a business isn't legal it doesn't mean it's not legitimate. It could just mean that The State's oppressive regulations, selective enforcement, confusing diabolical tax codes, and non-existent help for navigating those turbulent waters forces honest people into the gray market. Anybody who has been to a farmer's market has witnessed this gray market first hand.

I don't mind frequenting legitimate businesses that fail the legal test, but property/theft/fire insurance for the single most expensive thing I own free and clear is pretty important. I don't want to get into a dispute with my insurance company over who is going to pay for a theft (or whatever) if I knowingly parked at an "illegal" lot. I don't even know if this is a thing, legal matters are not my forte.

But... web sites generally help put my mind at ease and portray credibility. A web site is the store front of the modern era.

We had a trip from Kona to the mainland for 3 weeks. We rented a car at the kona airport for $25.00 the day before...drove back to Hilo....then drove back to Kona to return the car the next day when our plane departed. On the return....we got a rental in Kona for$40.00 a day and no drop off charge to Hilo. Total was less then $100.00 including gas. Cost if we were to park our car at the airport.... $320.00

I like to think that the higher cost pays for the cameras and security guards that monitor the parking area.

I would cut and paste my response too if it said exactly what I wanted it to say. In my work I use canned responses all the time to answer the 20 or so most commonly asked questions from clients, it saves me a lot of time rewriting the same stuff again and again and I make sure I don't leave anything out.

"Commercial parking lots and garages" is defined in HCC 25-1-5 as any building or parking area designed or used for temporary parking of automotive vehicles, which is not accessory to another use on the same building site and within which no vehicles are repaired.

Commercial parking is a permitted use in V, CG, CV, MCX, ML, and MG zoning.

Commercial parking is not a permitted use in any A, R, or Open zoning.

There are probably additional issues with GET, TAT, liability, and surface runoff.

Remember, folks: the rules, they are for everyone. (Personally, I believe that anyone who violates the rules should study them first, so as to know exactly which rules are being broken, and how.)

You can get a monthly parking pass at the Hilo Airport for $160.00.So if you are leaving for more than 10 days it would make sense to get a pass.
And yes it is safe, I used to leave a car there for months at a time.

Yes but you need to give them your key to your vehicle in case they have to move it "and" an additional $25.00 non refundable key fee.
