"His campaign finance records show he received $250 from beer maker Anheuser-Busch, $200 from Matson and $350 from Alexander &Baldwin.

Asked about the Alexander &Baldwin donation, Ruderman said he was looking at how to return it."

My road crew could help him return the Anheuser-Busch money.

there are in fact a number of connectivity issues that are being addressed by the Action Committee and the County

It's nice that they're trying.

County is forbidden by law from providing any funding or capital improvements to "privately owned" roads. If they somehow get past that issue, the required "minimum roadway standards" will make any connectivity project far too expensive to contemplate.

Compare/contrast: I recently drove the improved section of 40th (to the Pohaku intersection). It's amazing what OLE was able to accomplish for a "mere" $180K.

Further, those subdivisions are growing more rapidly than the subdivisions along Rt. 130 and are facing many of the same issues - although more quietly.

Growing rapidly maybe, although I would like to see the data, but much smaller subdivisions, with much smaller populations for the most part.

Didn't Fay Hanohano try multiple times to get this changed? I haven't heard of any attempts since then.

The only problem with the county's position is when they want to make repair or maintenance on a private road they do (8 Road) and they have county owned substandard roads that they barely maintain as substandard (Post Office Road in Pahoa)
Assume the best and ask questions.

The other question nobody seems to be asking: why is road construction so expensive? (Nor is it "just" road construction...)

Widen 9 miles of 130: $160M

Air conditioning for 1000 classrooms: $80M

It's almost as if the "real problem" isn't insufficient tax revenue, but massive overhead, possibly caused by a revolving door between the legislature and big contractors/labor unions.

Here's a good one: Chain of Craters emergency road construction: $20M. Brand new D9: $1M. Maybe more County workers and equipment would be cheaper than outsourcing everything to Yamada, Glover, Ishimoto...

A Democratic Party insider told Frau Chunkster that one of Daniel Inouye's prime directives as U.S. Senator was to see to it that no federal prosecutors were appointed for Hawaii who would even think of investigating the relationships between politicians, contractors, and labor unions. Even though Inouye is gone, the lack of effective federal investigative interest lingers.
