"new" Amazon frustration
#1
I ordered an "in stock" item from Amazon over 2 weeks ago and they never shipped it.

I checked today and it's still listed as "in stock" so I was curious as to why the order information hasn't been updated, so I went to amazon chat to find out.

Normally I am pretty patient with these things and never check to find out why some things take forever to ship, but this was an item I need relatively soon. Here was their response:

"Karl: I understand. I am really sorry about this terracore. Since the items on the Amazon website is not frequently updated I have checked the delivery date of the item and the shipping date is until Thursday, October 6, 2016 - Wednesday, October 12, 2016."

For those who need the translation, amazon is selling things they don't have in stock, and will not have in stock for (at least) 2 months after the purchase date. The item I inquired about is still listed as "in stock" and is accepting orders, but according to Karl they don't expect to be able to ship them until October.

So if you are wondering about long shipping times... there's your answer.

Alot of the items on Amazon are drop shipped..but the least they could do is tell you that there would be a delay when you check out...

.. kind of a prick job thing to do is sell something you don't even have..( as in manufacturing or distribution delays).

Just another day in the love/hate relationship with Amazon.

Amazon has a "gimmick" going on to boost sales paper wise, or "on the books" to impress the board members, with the unfairness to us consumers. In this day and age, you would think that with a computerized inventory if they have 10, and sell 10, the computer would detect and a "pop up" would appear that the item is temporary out of stock, and projected re stock date is ... . I use a website for most of my auto parts and they have programmed their computers to react as such, and has been stellar on keeping those dates, along with rapid shipping to my door, or whatever address I give them.
Maybe Amazon could take note.

You aren't looking closely enough at your transactions. Just because it is from the Amazon site doesn't mean it is from Amazon. I have had Prime for over 4 years now and have not had a single problem, and I have ordered thousands of dollars of things. There is Prime, there is shipped by Amazon, there is <some source> - satisfied by Amazon, then there is <some source> - shipped by that source, then there are sellers that aren't part of Amazon at all, paying to run their ad on Amazon. All are going to result in differing delivery conditions.

Amazon does have a glitchy tracking system for preorders, things that are sold out or orders that only come in lots, when is the next lot. Sometimes, the estimated stock date doesn't show up until the order page, right before hitting the order button. The updated product description there usually has the most up to date status of shipping. There are plenty of items that show up on the main page as in stock, then will show the estimated delivery date in the final status before order.

I ordered something May 23. It's still not here. Tracking says "on time". No other info. I waited over 6 weeks. After much complaining, they credited me.
Reordered and got it in about a week.
I'm getting fed up with Amazon. They used to be so good. Guess that's what happens when there's no competition.

In Amazon's defense.. about five years ago I ordered a vhf antennae. ( I was out in black sands those days).... it took about 7 days to arrive. Anyway when it came...It was obviously damaged. A eight foot tube with a ' bend' in the middle... I refused delivery.. emailed Amazon... and I kid you not..by the same time, next day ..I had a replacement arrive by FedEx.
.. they can hussle when they want to.

..Bad boys,Bad boys what we gonna do...let ya out on bail for a buck or two...

I think to offset the high cost of shipping to Hawaii and the fact I heard they lost a ton of money with Prime...I think they are holding orders to fill pallets before shipping to save money. Things coming USPS seem to be coming normal speed. I could be totally wrong about this. But, it is what I would do if I were them.

I consider Prime to be nothing more than another way to sell you more.
I do not want the Prime "perks" and would never buy them.
I did the 30 day free Prime and still didn't use any of them.

One thing I did notice, though.
Nothing gets ready for shipment any sooner, Prime or not.
But, after order sits in limbo for a week or more, you may get the HI-AK-PR equivalent of "2 day" shipping.
I found that Prime didn't really make all that much difference in how quickly my orders arrive.
Because, most of the time you wait for it is spent waiting for it to be shipped.

Where I really get irate with Amazon is when they screw up and short the shipment, saying it has been shipped but hasn't been.
Then, they cancel the item and give you a refund.
I didn't want the refund.
What I want is for them to fix their screw up and send the item.
I just reordered one of these types of items 2 months later.
I am still fuming.

My latest order had a large item that was shipped UPS from the East coast, 2 days to get it shipped.
It arrived by UPS in 3 days.
The rest of the order came from the West coast.
4 days after the 1st item arrived they shipped the balance of the order, wont be here before next Tuesday.
That is pretty typical of my Amazon experience.
Prime would have made no difference.

If I was in a hurry for anything I order from Amazon, I'd get it locally, if any way possible.
My only consolation is that I have done much ordering of things for delivery in AK cities and the bush.
It takes however long it takes. Nothing can change that.

When they raised the minimum order for free shipping, they stopped sending all my orders FedEx and switched to USPS.
They get here in about the same time, but now I have to go pick them up during the few hours the PO is open.

On the other hand, I ordered something from Target 8/9, and they said it would arrive 8/19--last Friday.
Tracking says it shipped from New Mexico 8/10 via UPS--UPS says they got it on the 15th, and they accidentally sent it to New Jersey.
From there it took 3 days to get to San Pablo, CA--where UPS hands packages off to USPS--then to So.San Francisco, and now it's back in San Pablo, presumably waiting for a boat. I might see it in a couple of weeks, or maybe a month.

Actually makes Amazon look pretty good.

don't have in stock, and will not have in stock for (at least) 2 months after the purchase date

If they've already charged your credit card, that's a type of "fraud".

to offset the high cost of shipping to Hawaii

I'm finding more and more items "flagged" for 48-states-only, and the helpful India chat center droids simply point at the "restrictions" (oversize, overweight, hazmat) even when they obviously don't apply (HDMI cable). Of course, they also suggest "this item available from other sellers" ... who magically have no trouble with the shipping.

I guess when you're as big as Amazon you can just write off a few million people if it's too inconvenient to bother shipping to them.
