I'm planning to use VOIP internet phone service.
We will live in Hawaiian Beaches…TW Oceanic Cable provider.
Does anyone have either of these services?
Is either one better then the other?
We will be making quite a few calls to the mainland and we would like to take advantage of the long distance savings.
Thanks…Kahunascott

If you have Standard Cable TV and Road Runner
You can get Oceanic Time Warner's VoIP Telephone service for 39.95 a month.

I'm surprised they didn't mention it to you.
As they always mention it to me about getting their telephone service.

Thanks Aaron, and they didn’t mention it when I ordered the cable and Roadrunner internet service. I was thinking that maybe they didn’t have it in that area yet? Take a look at the price difference… Packet8 is $19.99 a month and Vonage is $24.00 a month compared to $39.00 a month with TW.
That’s why I was asking if any one has been using any of the services?
Are you going with TW?

I haven't studied this yet as it is a way off for us and we will be using a cell and such to begin with.
So I went to the TW site and I'm wondering if this service includes DSL? Are cable providers for Television and or Computer connections?
Here we have DSL, and all the free calling, and all the features (Caller ID, ect which we don't use!) for $39.95.
If DSL isn't included then where would we go for that and apx how much does it cost?

If you can get Road Runner and Cable TV, you
can likely get TW's digital phone service.
That being said, yes there is cheaper options
but only TW's service and Pacific LightNet's
VOIP service give you a 808 area code number.
Vonage and Packet8 do not.
Since I have DSL and don't want to give it up,we don't have TW's digital phone service.

DSL and Cable modems are two completely different beasts . Oceanic TW offers Cable
Modem service. Which if you bundle with cable
tv you can get digital phone for 39.95 a month.

Thanks... I checked with both Vonage and Packet8 and you are correct they don't have 808 area codes. That's great for our folks left on the mainland. I could leave my NJ area code and they wouldn't get charged a toll when calling. But...if my next door neighbor called us they would be a long distance call with tolls...that's not gonna' work.
What do you think of cell phones. Cingular has the "Family Plan." Each of us (3) with a cell for a total of $69 a month with free long distance we're gonna' need cell phones anyway.....Your thoughts please

You might want to chechout
www.SKYPE.com SKYPE allows you to call anyone anywhere for free using your PC. I have used it over dial-up and on T-3 lines all with good results. Just go to the site and download the plug-in and have the person you want to call do the same, then initiate the call. It costs about .01 per minute if you "SKYPE OUT" meaning you have SKYPE but you call a regular number cell phone, landline, etc).
I integrated SKYPE into the "Community of Practice" software that we use for team collaboration and it works great. There is also a Video SKYPE so let me know your thoughts.
