Pam, Just wanted to thank you for your graciousness on tues., when we dragged our Chicago friend Karen up on our way to the "sunny side" (it rained....hope they appreciate our luck, filling up their catchments!!!).
The manor just blew her mind! The work you guys have done is incredible! Makes us glad for you & less frantic about our erector set house (in time all things come to pass...right?) Stop on by any time (Navel oranges should be ripe in a couple of weeks and we still have a few tangerines (plus your sapling!)
Aloha, Carey

Is it just me? The painters came to paint the garage yesterday. I get up in the morning and they are already here... apparently for hours as the guy is cleaning up the sprayer in the yard. I am PAINTED IN. Our only entrance in and out of the home right now is stairs up from garage to lanai. They painted the stairs and the treads. What's more they didn't clean them before they painted them so painted right over mud. I don't get it. Does anyone paint stairs, especailly the treads? Now I have a mess on my hands. So far my solution has been to go to Kona and do errands of a charitable nature to atone for my thoughts of killimg someome.....

On a positive note, the electricians gave in after 4 months of haggling and they ran the phone and cable lines thru the conduit to the house. Phone guys are due here Mon or Tues.. I don't remember which...so we'll see how that goes. I could have a land line!!

Aloha Pam All is not lost Behr makes a quick fix product that should lift the paint and even easier if it is PT, which will only peel anyway on a horizontal surface. So whether you have recourse or not there are some solutions out there.

Behr- 15 min Quick -Fix Deck finish remover & wood resurfacer. Removes; weathered stains and sealers, loose wood fibers, Oil and Water based Finishes..

Pam,

Yup, people do paint stairs including treads in Hawaii. I assume it has to do with slowing down rot. Both our houses in HPP came with painted stairs.

I saw this guy advertise he had livestock for sale a while back. I don't know if the number is still good but it's worth a shot 935-8473.

Pam, was in the Keaau Ace yesterday & thought of you. The have skid resistant paint (back of the paint aisle) Don't know if this would help on your steps, but it did bring you to mind, & a smile on my face. I also have seen some stair tread sticker type thingys that look like sandpaper.

Pam and Carey,
Those stair strip sticky type thingies work very well, especially in wet or very humid climates. Might add some Gorilla glue as the ones we had tended to lose their stickiness on the sides. Be careful Pam! pj

Okay. just another dfay in paradise... fried the motherbord on my laptop; it is in the shop. Got out the desktop and found it doesn't have bluetooth, and the cable STILL isn't hooked up, so coughed up $22 and signed up for earthlink via the phone line, which I will cancel in a few weeks... but wanted to share with you all...

1. Picked up some 60 Dracena (sp???) plants on freecycle and got them planted in the back yard. Woo Hooo...

2. Got a couple brave souls to accompany me to a desolate roadside area where I removed some cool leafy plants to test out in the garden... they look like a cross between tobacco and a giant taro....

3. GOT THE HOUSE FINALED!! Had to do a few (I think) stupid things and got it done in a day. Proves that it CAN be done without death, hysteria or permanant brain damage.

4. Bank sent out the appraiser and his jaw dropped. He has given us a very low (I thought ) appraisal from our original plans, though he seemed to think that anything over half a mil was amazing . He came throug the house now and just said,
Well, I guess we will be making some significant revisions. I had no idea..." As long as the tax man doesn't see it... LOL

We made some major compromises from the original plans and we will be working on the lanai railing and stairs slowly, but things are great. Kitchen is a dream; master bath is luxurious and the fireplace is cozy....

Pammie is a happy camper. Come on over and see the improvements if you dare... or do I have to host another Punatic Party??

Pam, does this mean you want plants now? Got tangerine plantlet (some where between a seedling & a real tree), bromliads, & a few ti that are ready. How about red or pink ginger? Pregnant cat? (decided today to call our place home - spotted a couple of suckers!)
