One of the best blessings is bright pink flagging tape around the big ohia trees to keep the bulldozer away from them, if you can. It is a LOT faster to save a tree than to grow one! You can always cut it down later if it is in the way, but it takes years and years to grow one. Also, ohia trees are sacred to Pele. You wouldn't want to get HER upset, now would you?

A hui hou,
Cathy

Hey way ahead of you tagged all the ohia trees on our lot when we were out in Nov. The dirt dude recommended is also very accomodating to saving them as well. No worries on that end.

I think you're thinking of the Ti plant. It has been common to plant Ti plants at the corners of the property for protection.

Hi Cindy:
Been so busy just saw you're looking for someone to bless your land.We found our "land blesser" through a Hawaiian friend.Father George is located in Volcano and has an assistant,Joe,that chants during the ceremony. If you like,I'll get his phone number for you.I'll have to get in touch with my hawaiian friend to get that number. Please email me,as I don't like to post names and numbers on the forum.
The blessing ceremony is short but interesting. They bring a gourd full of rain water and salt from the sea on the Kona side.We were each asked to put a pinch of the salt into the water and then Father George used a Ti leaf the sprinkle the salty water mixture all around the lot.As he did this,Joe was chanting in Hawaiian. The mixing of water from this side of the island and salt from the sea of the other side combine to make a mixture that is pleasing to the gods.An interesting ceremony!
Though they say you should do the blessing before clearing,it can be done after. They also suggest a blessing after the house is done, but before it is occupied.Hope this helps.

Thanks, I did get an answer back from someone I had been talking to months ago. She is coming out and Sat. and the clearing starts on Monday so our timing is good. This will just a small one, Rick, me and our daughters. When the house is done, now we're talking house blessing, punaweb party to meet all rolled into one, we may go all night (don't know though I'm kinda old). Will take pics and start my album, building to start begininning of May. I am so excited, and really wish I were there, the thought is the only thing that gets me going to work here in CA.

Aloha and mahalo again for responding.

Soon yes, but not now, damn. My husband's last day is July 31, we put our house up for sale here June 1, as soon as it sells we are there whether our house is ready or not, we'll rent. the house starts beginning of May, hoping the weather holds for it to complete fast...
I turn 50 in Oct. and it is my hope to have that happen as a resident of the BI!
